SUMMARY: The part time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will support the women we serve by providing support for our clients as they look to overcome substance abuse and mental health disorders. The LPN will serve as the Weekend Medication Technician for the 3pm to 11pm shift on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the role will assist the Delegating Nurse with on-call needs on the weekends.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:.
- Administers medication using proper dosage, route, timing and techniques.
- Approves medications or discontinues medications in the Quick MAR system.
- Transcribe new medication orders, enter medications in the MAR and make changes as needed.
- Take verbal orders from a provider and execute orders as needed. Update medical team of the orders as needed.
- Verifies the identity of residents receiving medication and verifies that medication was taken.
- Records the names of the drug, dosage, the time of administration, and any other relevant information.
- Responsible for taking vital signs and observing residents to detect specific responses to medication.
- Assess and triage client medical needs to determine whether urgent, emergent or stable and refer clients as appropriate during daily morning sick calls and throughout the day as needed. Refer clients to urgent care, emergency department, dental, PCP, or on-site provider as clinically indicated.
- Use critical thinking and nursing assessment of client symptoms and call a provider for orders, then transcribe and carry out provider’s orders.
- Take Handoff Report from the hospital for clients returning to us (this should be nurse to nurse).
- Enter nursing notes on clients who have issues in client files in ICAN notes
- Conducts one weekend Nursing Didactic group weekly, and documents the group in ICAN records system.
- Fill in for Full Time LPN if available.
- Administer and read results of PPD tests.
- Observe all rules of confidentiality relating to clinical information and treatment, both internally and when dealing with external agencies and/or individuals
- Review count for controlled substances each shift (2 person to count).
- A graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a current RN Licensure by the State Board of Nursing.
- Current and unencumbered Delegating Nurse license in accordance with state requirements or willing to immediately take course.
- 2-5 years of experience as Delegating Nurse in accordance with state requirements.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with varying forms of substances abuse
- Proven experience as LPN
- Ability to undertake a variety of diverse care tasks and work in a multidisciplinary team
- Familiarity with hospital health, safety and sanitation standards and procedures
- Understanding of confidentiality obligations and nursing best practices
- Excellent knowledge of medical and hospital terminology
- Good knowledge of MS Office and data entry
- Perfect physical condition and stamina
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate and able to handle stress
- Successful completion of LPN license program is a must
- Must demonstrate understanding of special treatment needs of women substance abusers in a residential treatment setting and show evidence of empathy, sensitivity, and maturity.
