SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
We’re looking for someone to own our retail technology domain—the person who becomes the expert on how our retail systems work, the advocate for our retail teams, and the bridge between business operations and technology. This role sits within a new Retail Engineering team reporting directly to the CIO, purpose-built to bring retail systems expertise in-house as a core competency.
You’ll partner closely with the CIO and a dedicated developer to support, improve, and evolve our retail technology ecosystem: POS systems, inventory management, e-commerce integration, and the business processes that depend on them. You’ll be the one who listens to our retail operations teams, understands their needs, designs functional solutions, tests and validates changes, troubleshoots issues, writes documentation, and trains end users.
This is not a consulting engagement and not a siloed support role. You’ll own what you build. The problems you solve stay solved because you’ll be here to maintain, refine, and improve the solutions over time. We’re building something new, and we want someone who’s excited to grow with it—someone sharp, curious, and resourceful who thrives on figuring things out and making systems work in the real world.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Business Partnership & Functional Analysis
- Serve as the primary IT point of contact for retail operations across all store locations and e-commerce, building trusted relationships with business stakeholders
- Gather and analyze business requirements from retail teams; translate needs into functional specifications and system designs in partnership with the development team
- Evaluate solution options within existing platforms and recommend approaches that balance business needs with technical feasibility
Retail Systems Support & Ownership
- Own day-to-day support and configuration of the retail technology stack: POS, inventory management, pricing, customer data, and omnichannel integrations
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex retail system issues that impact store operations
- Manage system changes through testing, UAT coordination, and controlled rollouts
Documentation, Training & Adoption
- Create and maintain functional documentation: process flows, configuration guides, and runbooks
- Develop and deliver training for retail operations teams on system capabilities and new features
- Drive user adoption and ensure retail teams can effectively leverage their technology
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement in retail workflows
- Design and implement KPIs and reporting that support retail decision-making
- Stay current on retail technology trends and bring forward ideas that fit our business
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- 3–5 years working with retail or commerce systems in a hands-on capacity—supporting, configuring, implementing, or administering retail business applications
- Direct experience on the customer/operator side of retail systems (not exclusively consulting or implementation-partner experience); you’ve lived with the systems you supported and owned the outcomes
- Solid understanding of core retail operations: POS workflows, inventory management, pricing and promotions, order management, and customer data
- Experience working through system issues end-to-end: from initial report through diagnosis, resolution, and root-cause follow-up
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills—you can break down ambiguous problems, ask the right questions, and drive toward practical solutions
- Clear written and verbal communication; able to translate between business language and technical concepts
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Commerce, Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, or legacy AX Retail
- Luxury retail or fashion industry experience
- Multi-channel retail experience spanning brick-and-mortar and e-commerce
- Exposure to system integrations, APIs, or data flows between retail and adjacent systems (ERP, e-commerce, accounting)
- Familiarity with SQL or reporting tools for ad hoc data analysis
- Prior experience in a Business Analyst, Functional Consultant, or Systems Administrator role (valued but not required if other experience is strong)
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Business process analysis, modeling, and documentation
- System configuration and administration in retail or ERP platforms
- Testing methodology including UAT planning, test case development, and defect tracking
- Basic SQL and data analysis for troubleshooting and reporting
