The Technical Manager oversees all building-related operations and upkeep to ensure a safe, functional and efficient work environment. This role balances technical maintenance with leadership responsibilities, including managing staff and compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, manage and oversee all building maintenance, repair and facility operations; this includes regular inspection and repair of essential systems like HVAC, electrical, plumbing and structural elements.
- Develop and administer preventative maintenance programs and schedules to proactively address issues and minimize equipment downtime.
- Negotiate, manage and oversee contracts with external vendors and contractors for services and repairs.
- Ensure the facility and all machinery adheres to all federal, state and local health, safety and environmental regulations; this also involves maintaining emergency preparedness and security procedures.
- Lead, train and supervise in-house maintenance staff, delegate tasks and evaluate performance.
- Plan and coordinate facility modifications, renovations, refurbishments and maintenance as needed.
Experience and Education
- Experience in facilities management, construction management or mechanical maintenance, especially in a manufacturing or industrial role is highly preferred
- A strong knowledge of building systems (e.g. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) and the ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical equipment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with employees, vendors and management
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is often preferred, but extensive experience can substitute; Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) certification is highly valued
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Must be able to read and write in English
