SUMMARY
Chemical Process Operators operate various heat treatment furnaces. Conduct vacuum and partial pressure heat treatment to alter metallurgical and mechanical properties of castings to achieve various levels of material strength, hardness and/or flexibility per customer requirements and specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Loads and unloads furnaces.
Utilizes furnaces’ Spec View software to select and print out correct program for castings to be heat treated.
Programs load parameters.
Monitors sequences on digital layout of heat treatment cycles for each furnace from start to finish.
Prints out charts showing completed heat treatment cycle.
Creates documentation on a weekly basis on machine maintenance and down time and/or required or scheduled maintenance or calibration.
Submits required test material needed in processing approval of specific heat treatment cycles.
Performs minor repairs and preventive maintenance.
Schedules Maintenance.
Operates fork lift.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school education or equivalent life experience and minimum six months to one-year related work experience and/or training in similar industry or work environment.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate in English to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively in one-on-one and small group situations with customers, engineers, supervision and other employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to read and interpret or to quickly learn to read and interpret line graphs and to comprehend the relationship between temperature and vacuum using the Fahrenheit scale and microns.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to effectively solve common equipment or process related problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
OTHER
Ability to operate fork lift truck and perform minor repairs and equipment maintenance.
