The CNU College of Arts and Humanities is accepting applications from prospective adjunct faculty members to teach individual courses, as needed, in the following areas in Fall 2026, and beyond:
Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures
Adjunct Pay Ranges From The Rank Of Instructor ($1,421) To Professor ($1,634) Per Lecture Hour Equivalent (LHE). New Rates For The AY 26-27 Are Subject To Change.Departmental Information
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) at Christopher Newport University is composedof a team of 17 scholar-teachers who are committed to undergraduate education and to professional growth. The Department offers instruction in ancient Greek, Latin, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, and Spanish as well as courses in English on the ancient (and modern) worlds. Our programs include five majors, four interdisciplinary minors, andMATdegrees in Spanish andESL. We are also strong supporters of study abroad:MCLLhas sponsored numerous short-term study trips and, in conjunction with the Office of Study Abroad, advises students on longer-term cultural immersion opportunities. In addition to serving our majors and minors,MCLLhas the privilege of working with a significant portion of the study body through the second language literacy requirement in the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum. Faculty members publish on a diverse range of subjects and welcome the opportunity to mentor students on independent research projects.
