Christie’s Place is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving women, children, and families impacted by HIV. For 30 years, we have provided trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centered services that address not only health, but the complex realities that shape it—poverty, stigma, and systemic inequities.
Christie’s Place is seeking a Deputy Director to serve as a key strategic and operational leader. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective day-to-day functioning of the organization while building systems that support long-term growth and impact.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment—supporting staff, strengthening workflows, solving problems in real time, and continuously improving how services are delivered.
The Deputy Director works closely with the Executive Director and serves as a core member of the Leadership Team.
- Oversee daily operations across all programs to ensure high-quality, client-centered service delivery
- Maintain an active, visible presence to support staff and troubleshoot issues in real time
- Improve workflows, systems, and processes to increase efficiency and client experience
- Ensure coordination across mental health, case management, peer navigation, and support services
- Monitor program performance and implement improvements as needed
- Translate organizational strategy into operational plans and execution
- Identify gaps and opportunities to improve service delivery and organizational systems
- Design and refine workflows and service models to increase impact and efficiency
- Support implementation of new programs, partnerships, and expansion efforts
- Use data and staff input to inform decision-making and continuous improvement
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations
- Supervise and coach staff and supervisors to build strong, accountable teams
- Foster a positive, trauma-informed workplace culture
- Support leadership development across programs
- Ensure compliance with contracts, funding requirements, and organizational policies
- Oversee program reporting, data accuracy, and performance tracking
- Support grant writing and reporting processes
- Monitor key performance indicators and outcomes
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Executive Director
- Make day-to-day operational and staffing decisions independently
- Represent Christie’s Place in community partnerships and collaborations
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in operations, HR, and program management
- Experience managing staff in high-volume service environments (e.g., community health centers, social services)
- Strong background in human resources and staff supervision
- Experience with compliance, reporting, and grant-funded programs
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Experience in HIV services, public health, or community-based organizations
- Background in clinic or high-volume service operations
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience with electronic health records and data systems
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong customer service and conflict resolution abilities
- Ability to analyze systems and implement improvements
- Professional, ethical, and able to handle confidential information
- Primarily onsite role (minimum 4 days/week)
- Fast-paced, high-volume service setting
- Occasional evening or weekend hours as needed
- Salary range: $90,000 – $125,000 annually
