Duties
- Safely operate Class A tractor-trailers, including flatbed trucks, ensuring adherence to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks, ensuring cargo integrity and security.
- Secure loads properly on flatbed trailers using straps, chains, and tarps to prevent shifting during transit.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer, identifying any mechanical issues or safety concerns.
- Plan efficient local routes for timely deliveries while maintaining compliance with hours-of-service regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate pickups and deliveries, providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain accurate delivery logs, inspection reports, and other documentation required by company policies and regulatory agencies.
Experience
- Proven experience in truck driving, particularly with flatbed trailers or similar freight delivery roles.
- Familiarity with manual transmission trucks and operating refrigerated trailers is preferred.
- Knowledge of route driving, load securing techniques, and freight handling procedures such as load & unload operations.
- Experience with various truck types including tanker, dump truck, or roll-off trucks is advantageous but not required.
- Ability to operate forklift equipment for loading/unloading cargo safely when necessary.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to commercial driving and cargo securement standards.
