What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant/Scheduler - Orthopedics/Sports Medicine position at Christie Clinic?
Christie Clinic's department of Orthopedics/Sports Medicine is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant/Scheduler at the Fields clinic from Monday-Friday 7:55am-5:00pm, with no night or weekend requirements.
Duties include the performance of skills through the delivery of patient care using a systematic patient assessment and assisting staff members in scheduling patient surgeries and procedures with other facilities.
JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
Communicate with outside facility’s surgery schedulers to schedule surgery appointments.
Inform outside schedulers of procedure, diagnosis codes, patient’s name and demographics.
Submit prior authorizations for surgeries.
Coordinate appointments with patient’s primary care providers for history and physical prior to surgery.
Coordinate lag work prior to surgery.
Prepare and complete pre-surgery patient instruction packet.
Coordinate Physical Therapy visits for post-op patients.
Handle all Work Comp paper work/authorizations.
Fill out requirements for FMLA.
Perform receptionist duties, as needed.
Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment. Clean and restock following appointment.
Assist patient to exam room, take vitals, weight and height of patient. Enter information into the electronic medical record.
Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc. and enter into the electronic medical record.
Flag appropriate room for provider to see patient.
Assist with procedures during appointment.
Remove sutures, staples, etc., as needed.
Perform dressing changes.
Remove/reapply casts.
Review online transcription prior to patient appointment and update during appointment as necessary.
Order and maintain relevant office supplies for department effectiveness.
Educate patients regarding medications, injections, dressings, etc.
Complete chart preparation and prepare x-ray orders, as needed.
Address the “D” & “L” jellybeans.
Check RX Line
Perform related work as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Certified Nurse Assistant Certificate and/or graduation from an accredited program for medical assistants
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous health care experience
Coding experience
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
CPR Certification
TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Demands include sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, stretching and lifting up to 75 pounds. Hearing within, or correctable to, a normal range, vision correctable to 20/20 and manual dexterity for the operation of office equipment is required.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in a clinical setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, hazardous waste, bodily fluids and other waste common to a health care environment. Requirements may include working irregular hours.

The estimated pay range for this position is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related criteria.
