Job Description

Scope

The Health Room Nurse provides preventive health services to facilitate the student’s optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development.  Identifies problems and disabilities and provides such services as case finding, health education, referral and care in order to help prevent and treat illness or serious health problems. He/She supports the education process by working to assure the health of the students and employees and maintain open communication with parents or guardians. 

Qualifications

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:

• A strong clear Christian testimony with a mature and godly spirit 
• A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school 
• Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
• Agreement and belief that the Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind 

The ideal candidate shall:

• Be qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Indiana and hold a current, unrestricted license
• Be certified in CPR or BLS
• Have a minimum of one year experience in public health nursing, community health nursing, school health nursing or pediatric nursing.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

• Coordination of screening programs and immunization review/follow up for the school
• Ongoing maintenance and review of all Student Health Records to ensure compliance with Indiana State Requirements.
• Conducts screenings and evaluates findings of deficits in vision and hearing
• Serves as the health care consultant for school personnel, students and their parents/families
• Assures that policies and health care procedures adhere to legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice
• Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases
• Provides health education
• Plans and implements school health management protocols
• Acts as a resource person in promoting health careers
• Identifies and cares for students with special health care needs
• Administers medication to students
• Documents, compiles and analyzes data for required reports on school health services
• Supervises licensed and delegated unlicensed staff to assure that they safely and effectively perform given tasks
• Functions as the liaison between the school and local health service agencies/providers
• Interprets health mandates, recommendations and trends to school personnel
• Promotes health through education and counseling
• Interprets students’ health needs to school personnel and facilitates understanding of and adjustment to changes and limitations

• Collaborates with other Christian Academy School System nurses as needed.

Reporting Relationship

The Health Room Nurse reports to the Director of Administrative Services.
