The Safety Coordinator actively leads inspections, safety meetings, and incident investigations, serving as the primary resource for all safety matters on the project.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain the project’s Site-Specific Safety Plan in accordance with OSHA and company standards.
- Conduct daily site safety walks and weekly comprehensive inspections, documenting hazards and ensuring corrective actions are completed.
- Lead daily pre-task planning meetings and weekly toolbox talks with site crews.
- Enforce proper use of PPE and safe work practices, with a focus on fall protection, scaffolding, crane operations, and other high-rise specific hazards.
- Maintain safety logs, records, and reports as required by OSHA and company policies.
- Conduct safety orientation and training for all new employees and subcontractors on site.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; prepare root cause analyses and corrective action plans.
- Coordinate emergency response drills, including fire evacuation and fall rescue procedures.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with site safety requirements and OSHA regulations.
- Work with project leadership to promote a proactive, safety-first culture on the jobsite.
- Complete special projects and assignments as required.
- Frequently required to walk, climb, and stand for extended periods on uneven surfaces and multiple levels.
- General office environment requiring frequent interaction with employees in a construction environment with exposure to noisy conditions.
- Prolonged use of a PC, laptops, display screens and mobile phone.
- Travel required.
- Ability to work irregular hours to meet the needs of the business to achieve required performance.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and navigate a multi-story construction site.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 5-10 years’ safety experience in commercial construction or related experience required OR equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
- First Aid/CPR Certification and OSHA 30 hour required.
- CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or ASP/CSP certification preferred.
- Experience in construction and high-rise or large-scale projects preferred.
