What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nursery Attendant position at Christ Episcopal Church?
NURSERY ATTENDANT
Position reports to: Lead Nursery Attendant and The Coordinator of Christian Formation
Primary focus: To provide a safe, welcoming, and attractive place for our youngest members and visitors
(ages 0-4 years) while their families attend church services or other parish events.
The duties of the Nursery Attendant include:
- Arrive 15 minutes before the opening of the nursery to open and prepare the room for use.
- Welcome children and their parents/caregivers; assist them with signing in and signing out their children.
- Provide direct care for children who stay in the nursery.
- Engage with the children through play and other activities.
- Orient volunteers when Lead Nursery Attendant is away and record volunteers’ names in logbook.
- Help Lead Nursery Attendant maintain records and attendance logs for each nursery session.
- Follow appropriate safety practices so that children are secure while in the nursery.
- Use nursery pager system or parent cell phone, to contact parent if needed, at parent’s discretion.
- Maintain neat, well organized, and inviting nursery rooms.
- Inform supervisor of any needed supplies.
- Except in the event of an emergency or illness, inform LEAD NURSERY ATTENDANT of any needed time off a minimum of two weeks in advance, so a volunteer/substitute can be scheduled.
- Straighten up rooms and sanitize all surfaces and toys, clean changing station etc. at the end of each nursery session, as discussed in detail.
Training required:
- Safe Church/Safe Community (renewal required every three years; training provide by Christ Church)
- Background Check
