POSITION: Assistant Preschool Teacher
REPORTS TO: Lead Teacher
STATUS: Part time, per school year
CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt
SUMMARY STATEMENT:
An Assistant Teacher at Awesome Kids Preschool loves children and has a heart for teaching children about Jesus. They come alongside the Lead Teacher in the classroom to assist with the day-to-day education needs. They are great at supporting and collaborating with the lead and other teachers, and are engaging and encouraging with the children and families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with young children, and able to meet the requirements of the state licensing agency.
- Exemplify a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and in general agreement with the doctrinal and biblical position of Christ Community.
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with children and parents.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Show the love of Jesus to the children and families.
- See that the children receive as much time as possible on a one to one basis and listen attentively to them and know them by name.
- Use positive reinforcement as much as possible.
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children at all times, being alert for the needs and/or programs of the children as a group.
- Report any observation of value, special need or problem to the lead teacher and/or director.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Follow Awesome Kids Preschool policies and philosophies.
- Assist in discipline as directed by the lead teacher
- Responsible in individual rooms for the set up and clean up of daily classroom activities (working cooperatively with the lead teacher). Observe teaching techniques of the lead teacher. Try to anticipate her/his needs and watch for areas that you can work effectively as a team.
- Continue education by attending workshops that are recommended by the director, and will complete in-service training required yearly by the state
- Be familiar with supply locations and where to find items needed by the teachers.
- Communicate supply shortages and repairs to the Director or Assistant to Director.
- Attend the training provided by the director and become proficient in using the copy machine, die-cut, laminator and paper cutter.
