Job Title: Lead Estimator
Location: Washington, DC
Salary: Up to $130,000 per year
Reports To: Vice President of Operations.
Job Summary: The Lead Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects. This role involves analyzing project specifications, collaborating with project teams, and ensuring that bids are submitted on time and within budget. The Lead Estimator will play a key role in driving the success of projects by providing clear and comprehensive cost assessments.
We are looking for an experienced construction professional with a strong background in GMP, Design-Build, and CMAR project delivery contracts, school, recreation, or government projects in DMV area is a plus. Skilled in preconstruction services, cost estimating, value engineering, and risk management. Proven ability to collaborate with owners, architects, and engineers to deliver high-quality projects on schedule and within budget, while maintaining cost certainty and minimizing risk exposure.
- Review and analyze project plans and specifications to develop detailed cost estimates.
- Prepare and manage the bid process, including identifying potential subcontractors and suppliers.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and architects to gather necessary information for estimates.
- Utilize cost estimation software and tools to produce accurate estimates.
- Assess project risks and opportunities to provide strategic input during the bidding process.
- Maintain a database of historical costs and industry benchmarks to inform future estimates.
- Present estimates and bid proposals to the Vice President of Operations and other stakeholders.
- Mentor and train junior estimators and team members on best practices and techniques.
- Review the performance of up to three estimators and one administrative person for preconstruction.
- Help put any proposal together and lead with a logistics plan or general condition study if needed.
- Help build the Schedule of Values if needed of any awarded project and help turnover the project from Preconstruction to field operations including a good transition and time with the PM running the work.
Qualifications:
- Experience with K-12 Schools and Government Facility Projects
- GMP experience
- Understands DC Wage Scale, SBE/CBE, and FSA compliance
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction estimating, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role.
- Efficient with Onscreen Takeoff- Quick Bid, and develop a working knowledge of procore as needed.
- Knowledge of actual cost, and seek out actual cost data from the company and other sources and apply actual cost knowledge to bidding.
- Proficiency in estimating software Sage 300 and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and labor costs.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel frequently to project sites as needed.
