Position Type: Part-Time (20 hours per week) including Sunday mornings and evening rehearsals.

We seek a passionate and skilled Music/Choir Director to lead and develop our music ministry in a manner that supports the mission of the church and enhances congregational worship.

Position Summary

The Music/Choir Director provides leadership for the church's music ministry by planning, organizing, and directing music programs that enrich worship services and foster spiritual engagement. This individual will collaborate with the pastor, worship leaders, accompanists, and volunteers to create meaningful worship experiences consistent with the traditions and values of The United Methodist Church.

Essential Responsibilities

• Serve as the Director of the Chancel Choir for weekly rehearsals during the school year, regular Sunday morning presentations, and other special presentations.
• Actively work to engage all ages of the congregation through musical opportunities.
• Commit to a shared vision of outward focus & leading the growth of the music program.
• Coordinate & lead other musical leaders in the church.
• Select and curate choir repertoire for worship services and special events, drawing from a wide range of musical styles and traditions.
• Communicate well with our organist and other accompanists.
• Coordinate music schedules for all choirs and summer special music, for extra services outside of Sunday mornings, and for other services, including Christmas Eve.
• Work with other groups that perform in our church but are not a part of our regularly scheduled choirs.
• Oversee and maintain music purchases and musical equipment.
• Coordinate and rehearse the music for services with the Contemporary Praise Team.
• When necessary, find a quality replacement for any of our musical group directors or accompanists.
• Arrange to have the sanctuary piano, choir room piano, and organ tuned regularly. Other pianos can be tuned less often.
• Attend and actively participate in church staff meetings.
  
  

Experience

• Background conducting large choir or ensemble groups.
• Understanding of both traditional and contemporary church music
• Piano and accompanist skills a plus
