Position Summary
Direct Support Staff (DSS) provide day-to-day, hands-on support to participants, promoting independence, personal growth, community involvement, and skill development. DSS team members deliver individualized services rooted in Person-Centered Thinking and positive support strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
- At least 18 years of age
- Valid driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED
- CPR/First Aid certification - we can provide training
- TB/health clearance - we can help
- DOJ/FBI criminal background clearance
- Effective communication skills
Duties & Responsibilities
Direct Support Staff shall:
- Provide personal care and support with ADLs (hygiene, meals, mobility, etc.)
- Implement ISPs, BSPs, and individualized skill-building plans
- Support communication using verbal, non-verbal, or AAC methods
- Promote social, vocational, and community participation
- Ensure participant safety and monitor health & behavioral changes
- Document program activities, data, incidents, and progress notes
- Communicate effectively with families, caregivers, and team members
- Participate in ongoing training and staff meetings
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe program environments
- Support transportation and supervise community outings
- Fulfill mandated reporting obligations
