Teacher - Social Studies - Part-Time - REMOTE

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY - SOCIAL STUDIES TEACHER PART TIME (20 hrs/wk)

Confident with a friendly and competent professional demeanor. Duties include assigning homework, managing classroom activities, and compiling reports. This position requires in-depth knowledge of effective online teaching practices that ensure learning is a comfortable and meaningful experience. A teacher must have interpersonal and organizational skills, with a strong command of the English language.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Adheres to the curriculum and lesson plans.
2. Modifies and updates curriculum, lesson plans, and assessments as needed within the provided work schedule.
3. Follows procedures to achieve lesson goals.
4. Teaches, assigns, explains, and grades/assesses assignments/assessments.
5. Attend schedule for live classes and set office hours for work with individual students (“time choice classes”) in the Charterverse.
6. Take attendance and document daily notes in the Student Information System (SIS, i.e. JMC).
7. Oversees the normal classroom rhythms and activities.
8. Must be able to engage students online and ensure that resources are up-to-date and current.
9. Participate in student modification/accommodations and meetings as identified in MTSS, 504, IEP, and Gifted & Talented plans.
10. Attend and participate in professional development opportunities and school meetings.
11. Proactively communicate with parents/staff/students information regarding student progress and document in the SIS promptly (i.e. JMC).
12. Daily, prepare and share lesson materials and resources for students who were not able to attend the class (i.e. flipped learning), and follow up on an individual basis as needed.
13. Compliance with all school regulations and policies.
14. Work with individual students to differentiate instruction, challenge them, and improve their academic success and social-emotional learning.
15. Compliance with all school regulations and policies.
16. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the CEO or designee, necessary and appropriate to achieve the program and/or School goals and objectives.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Education and Licensure

• BA in Education
• Iowa licensure in the Subject Area of Teaching

Required Skills and Abilities

1. Experience working with secondary school students or young adults.
2. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in specific course instructing.
3. Must be able to practice and teach diverse individuals.
4. A solid understanding of content and standards, project-based learning, and standard-based grading.
5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Proficient in communicating effectively orally and in writing.
8. Must have the ability to learn new techniques, respond to research, and create educational opportunities that use technology and reflection to develop 21st-century skills.
9. Must be reliable and self-motivated. Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
10. Demonstrated ability to continue professional growth.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in virtual communication practices and relevant online technology.
