(Radiology):

Graduate of an A.M.A. approved school of Radiologic Technology or successful completion of a Mississippi Board of Medical Licensure approved Limited X-ray Machine Operator course.

Experience:

Preferred

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration:

(Radiology):

ARRT registered/MS Board of Health license or LXMO certification.

CT

Physical Demands:

Walking, standing, sitting throughout shifts.

Lifting patients, objects (10-40 lbs. usually)

Pushing/pulling mobile equipment, patients in wheel chairs or on stretchers.

Physical ability to perform basic radiology procedures.

Skills and Qualifications:

Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to listen.

Technical ability and interest.

CPR certification required.

Job Purpose: Describes the general purpose of the job; why the job exists.

Provides health care services by applying x-ray energy and computer processing techniques to assist in diagnosis. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient's conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Provides patient care/services for all stages of the life span including pediatrics, adolescents, adults and geriatrics.

I. Maintain strict patient confidentiality.

II. Follow proper patient safety and patient identification procedures under any circumstance or environment.

III. Prepare patient and provide patient care during procedure to ensure patient health, safety, well-being, and privacy.

IV. Participate in cost containment activities.

V. Ensure efficient and proper functioning of equipment.

VI. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of all results obtained through performance of test procedures.

VII. Ensure a safe working environment for self and coworkers by following regulatory agency and organizational policies and procedures.

VIII. Exhibit and promote the professional image of this position in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals, and standards.

IX. Ensure a safe, clean, and secure work environment and is prepared for emergency conditions.

X. Compile records and maintain files according to procedure as required for accurate and up-to-date departmental records and/or reports.

XI. Communicate information clearly and concisely.

XII. Ensure radiation safety/protection guidelines are followed.

XIII. Maintain ability to perform diagnostic radiology procedures.

XIV. Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement.

XV. Maintain coordination of activities with others to accomplish work activities and department goals.

XVI. Demonstrate job competency to include safety, infection control, effective and safe use of equipment, and CPR and other lifesaving interventions when applicable.

XVII. Ensure continued knowledge of field through appropriate amounts of continuing education.

XVIII. Responsible for the assessment, treatment of care of patients by demonstrating competency in the following as appropriate, clinical knowledge, clinical skills, and communication skills to the ages of the patients served.

This Job Description is an overall statement of major accountabilities and duties performed by incumbents in this position. The incumbent may be requested to perform other position-related duties other than those described in this description.

Major Work Activities:

· Provide for patient's physical needs during procedure to ensure continued support, comfort, safety, and privacy. Maintain strict patient confidentiality.

· Provide emotional support and comfort to patient when appropriate. Reassures patient as needed.

· Prepare patient for procedure, providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.

Provide general information and teaching, relevant to procedure to be performed.

· Present information accurately, clearly and concisely to ensure understanding by all patients and staff.

Corroborate patient clinical history with procedure, assuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner.

Obtain all necessary permission forms before beginning exams.

· Listen carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answers questions, and/or obtain needed information.

· Communicate the patient’s follow up needs to the appropriate authority.

· Report any unusual or alarming conditions pertaining to patient to appropriate authority.

· Recognize when a situation is critical and requires immediate attention.

· Initiate correct calls/codes or contacts appropriate resources needed to provide or obtain emergency services.

· Provide emergency assistance as required and/or directed by the appropriate authority or emergency team leader.

· Review schedule of procedures to determine specifications for supplies and equipment.

· Create and maintain accurate records, files, and logs for departmental records, entering required patient data into the current information system.

· Schedule patients in proper sequence coordinating multidisciplinary studies and giving instructions in proper preparations for exam.

· Ensure that charges are assigned appropriate for exam performed.

· Require minimal direct supervision in the performance of duties.

· Use work time productively.

Major Work Activities (Continued):

· Perform equipment test checks and quality control monitoring.

· Report any equipment malfunctions immediately to appropriate authority and document according to departmental policy.

· Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

· Develop and maintain contact with other departments and co-workers to plan and coordinate interrelated activities.

· Maintain workflow by making timely requests to others and responding quickly to any requests.

· Keep others informed of progress on work activities to ensure coordination of activities.

· Ensure workload is evenly distributed among co-workers.

· Rotate duties, shifts and Holidays.

· Demonstrate the ability to adjust and change with schedule assignments and workload requirements.

· Exhibit an appropriate attitude of professionalism in dealing with hospital staff, patients, visitors, coworkers and supervisors.

· Demonstrate commitment to the hospital’s, and the radiology department's philosophy, goals and standards of testing.

· Completion of competency checklist; demonstrate knowledge of policies.

· Participate in in-service education programs and technical advancement opportunities.

· Apply infection control and Universal Precautions and Procedures guidelines to all patients, self and others in immediate area.

· Demonstrate knowledge of disease processes; diagnostic tests, normal and abnormal; treatment modalities and expected outcomes; psychosocial needs of various age groups; growth and development of infants, children and adolescents; the aging processes, associated complicating factors and behaviors.

· Demonstrate the ability to complete tests, procedures or tasks normally required of position; appropriately document patient responses; physical, emotional, verbal, and non-verbal; recognize and function accordingly in relation to priorities of patient needs.

· Demonstrate the ability to obtain information from patient/family; can explain tests, procedures or tasks to various age groups appropriate to their level of comprehension; demonstrate the ability to communicate patient needs to physician and clinical peers.

Radiology Specific Work Activities:

· Position patient for x-ray procedures to best demonstrate anatomic area of interest, respecting patient's ability and comfort.

· Evaluate images for technical quality assuring proper ID recorded.

· Meet the department requirements of 12 hours of continuing education every year.

· Follow radiation protection policies when operating equipment.

· Use appropriate radiation protection devices to patient, self and others in the radiation area.

· Wear film badge appropriately.

· Monitor personal radiation reports.

· Operate radiographic equipment correctly.

· Manipulate display parameters to ensure highest image quality.

· Follow the report process to completion including charting and distributing reports.

· Meets the department requirements of 12 hours of education every year.

· Maintain archival storage of digitized data as appropriate.

· Assists the radiologist as needed.

Other Special Characteristics:

Easily adaptable to changing working schedules. Due to nature of procedures performed in department, must be able to handle daily stressful environment, work cooperatively, and support employees and physicians in critical patient environment.

Pay: $18.00 - $23.40 per hour
