DIRECTOR OF CHILD NUTRITION (FOOD SERVICE)
JOB DESCRIPTION
Title : Child Nutrition Director
Classification : Administration
Qualifications :
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of four (4) years management of large-scale institutional or school food service program. Prefer college degree with primary focus in food service or nutrition education or equivalent combination of education and food service managerial experience.
- Demonstrated experience in Child Nutrition Programs recommended;
- Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship;
- The ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations;
- The ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Basic computer skills in programs such as Word and Excel required;
- Must obtain and maintain sanitation certificate;
- The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, staff, parents, and the general public; and
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Reports To : Chief Financial Officer
Supervises : All Child Nutrition and Warehouse Employees
Position Goals : To ensure effective and efficient operation of the district's Child Nutrition Program by providing affordable, high quality, nutritious meals to students while maintaining a self- supporting operation.
Performance Responsibilities :
Supervises Child Nutrition financial procedures in cooperation with the district finance department, including but not limited to payroll, audits, site cafeteria accounting, requisitions and purchase orders, and application and distribution of all government reimbursements;Works cooperatively with the State Department of Education's Child Nutrition Department in seeing that policy and procedure are adhered to including, but not limited, to the Free and Reduced Program and the National School Lunch Act, and U.S.D.A. commodity acquisition and distribution;Supervises the planning, preparation and costing of any requested catering events;Plans and supervises the preparation and serving of menus at all schools through the use of standardized recipes, proper food handling techniques and correct portion sizes;Submits required state and federal applications, policy statements, commodity applications and all other forms required for operation of Child Nutrition Programs;Consults as needed with school planners and architects on plans and specifications for new or renovated food service facilities;Administers the Child Nutrition Program budget;Prepares bids and purchases all food, supplies and equipment for the Child Nutrition Program;Standardize cafeteria accounting procedures in cooperation with the district controller's office;Arranges for audits of cafeteria accounts through approved auditors;Standardize all prices charged to students and adults;Writes all menus in accordance to Child Nutrition Program regulations;Ensures that all current department policies and practices adhere to current Federal legislation governing Child Nutrition Programs;Makes supervisory visits to all individual cafeterias to ensure that operations are in accordance with department standards;Ensures that all government commodity food items are stored, used and recorded as required by Federal legislation;Provides assistance in the area of nutrition education throughout district, if needed;Implements Board Policy for Food Service personnel and determines staffing needs of all sites based on participation levels;Reviews all expenditures before final payments are processed;Keeps patrons and public informed of menus and services offered by the department and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the Child Nutrition Program;Operates a self-sustaining program while offering quality services to students and adults.Informs the public, through the local press or through district media, of planned lunch menus on a weekly basis;Assists in developing IEP's for students with unique nutritional needs;Participate and provide leadership in professional organizations : local, state and national levels; andPerforms other duties as requiredTerms of Employment :
Salary Range : Dependent on Education and / or Experience
Contract Days : 220
Benefits : As established by Board of Education policy.
Evaluation : After initial probationary period of six months. Evaluated on an annual basis thereafter.
