What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Dental Hygienist Position position at Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority (CNHSA)?
Job Summary:
The dental hygienist provides clinical and educational services under the general direction of a dentist while exercising professional judgment to determine the most suitable treatment for each patient. This role involves delivering patient-centered care and empowering individuals to maintain their oral health.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform chair-side prophylaxis, full-mouth debridement, subgingival scaling, and root planing using hand instruments and ultrasonic devices.
- Observe, document, and report oral conditions and periodontal concerns by thoroughly examining patients' teeth, mouth, throat, and pharynx.
- Apply temporary restorations, desensitizing agents, and sealants, remove sutures, and change periodontal dressings.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, including proper brushing and flossing techniques, nutritional and dietary counseling for dental health, tobacco cessation, and care for removable appliances and bridges.
- Administer anesthesia and medications such as topical anesthetic, local anesthetic, topical fluoride gel, topical fluoride varnish, and may administer nitrous oxide as appropriate.
- Review patient dental and medical history, medications, charts, and radiographs before starting treatment.
- Follow infection control standards in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
- This position involves light physical work, which may include:
- Lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally and carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Frequent standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods with occasional pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls.
- The ability to perform fine motor tasks and maintain physical stamina throughout the workday.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited dental hygiene program and a valid state license.
- Experience treating patients with periodontal disease.
- Ability to provide compassionate care to patients of all ages and backgrounds.
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain treatment plans and oral health practices.
- At least one year of clinical experience preferred.
