General Description
Under the supervision of the Utility Manager, the Laborer is a non-exempt position under FLSA. This employee assists with the operation and maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, performs repairs and inspects equipment. This employee performs manual labor and should possess a strong mechanical aptitude.
Essential Functions
- Operates, inspects and monitors plant equipment and machinery for proper operation at the Wastewater and Water Plants and makes corrections and adjustments as necessary;
- Performs maintenance and repairs to machinery;
- Adjusts chemical feed levels;
- Inspects equipment and reservoirs for damage;
- Assists with the maintenance of plant facilities and buildings;
- Measures and records water levels, flow rates, pressures and hours of equipment operations;
- Takes samples and performs tests to determine water and wastewater quality;
- Records results from water and wastewater tests;
- Operates equipment including tractors, trucks, mowers, loaders and forklifts;
- Performs janitorial work;
- Follows policies and procedures;
- Follows safety procedures and practices;
- On Call when required
- Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned.
Education requirements
- High school diploma/GED
EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION requirements
- Valid Kansas Driver License
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL requirements
- Some adverse working conditions exist within this position.
- Exposure to water- and blood-borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, machinery, excessive noise, heights, confined areas, and all types of weather conditions is expected.
- This employee works in confined spaces, performs daily walking, climbing, reaching, kneeling and stooping tasks and operates departmental equipment on a constant basis. Determined Work Level: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and not greater than 10 pounds of force constantly = Level 3 Medium Work.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- This employee must be able to operate hand tools and other equipment with a high degree of efficiency.
- This employee must display a willingness and aptitude to learn new tasks and procedures.
Pay: $19.28 - $26.67 per hour
