Mechanical Engineer - Datacenter and Colocation Facility
Position type: Full-Time Exempt
Location: Onsite (Richmond, VA)
Position Summary:
As the Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the mechanical systems within the datacenter and colocation facility. You will lead a team of technicians and engineers to ensure the continuous operation, maintenance, and improvement of the facility's mechanical infrastructure. This role requires a strong background in mechanical engineering, expertise in datacenter cooling and HVAC systems, and a proactive approach to managing the facility's critical environment.
Responsibilities:
- Mechanical Systems Management: Oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of all mechanical systems in the datacenter, including CRAC Units, HVAC cooling systems, plumbing, and other critical infrastructure.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of mechanical technicians and engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure efficient and effective facility operations.
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for all mechanical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Troubleshooting and Repairs: Rapidly respond to mechanical system failures, conduct root cause analysis, and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime and ensure the facility's reliability.
- Energy Efficiency: Identify and implement energy-efficient strategies to optimize cooling and HVAC systems, reducing operational costs while maintaining industry-leading performance.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure the facility complies with all relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices related to mechanical systems and environmental controls.
- Budget and Procurement: Collaborate with the management team to prepare and manage the mechanical department's budget, including procurement of necessary tools, equipment, and spare parts.
- Performance Monitoring: Utilize monitoring tools to assess the performance of mechanical systems, analyze data, and implement improvements to enhance the facility's efficiency and reliability.
- Project Management: Coordinate and oversee mechanical infrastructure projects, from planning and design to implementation and commissioning.
- Vendor Relations: Maintain positive relationships with equipment vendors, service providers, and contractors to ensure timely support and quality services.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in datacenter facility management, with a focus on mechanical systems.
- Proven experience in managing and leading teams.
- In-depth knowledge of datacenter cooling methodologies, HVAC systems, and environmental controls.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations (ASHRAE, NFPA, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
