Chipton-Ross is seeking an Engineer III for a contract opportunity in San Diego, CA.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
• 10 years’ experience in gearbox development with gas turbine designs or within aerospace.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g, CATIA, NX) and analysis tools (ANSYS).
• Familiarity with materials, coatings, and heat treatment processes relevant to gearbox components.
• Experience with aerospace standards and design practices.
• Demonstrated experience with Dimensioning and Tolerancing ASME Y14.5-2009 (GD&T).
• Demonstrated Experience with Stack Up Analysis.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Design and develop gearbox systems for gas turbine engines.
• Design gas turbine components for the powerhead, LRUs, and other equipment.
• Perform detailed mechanical design, including gear geometry, housing, bearings, seals, shafts, and lubrication systems.
• Conduct analytical studies (load analysis, thermal, FEA, fatigue) to ensure mechanical integrity and performance comply with customer and airworthiness specifications.
• Prepare and review engineering documentation including 3D models, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
• Support testing and validation of the gearbox components and systems.
• Participate in root cause investigations and provide corrective actions for development and in-service issues.
• Interface with suppliers and subcontractors for build to print and build to specification components.
• Follow-up with other engineering groups to assure design performs as specified.
• Coordinate with other engineering and company departments to achieve optimization of the design, based on established constraints.
• Build a strong relationship with clients, partners and parent company technical team in a partnership environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):
• Knowledge of lubrication systems, thermal management, and tribology.
• Experience in designs that comply with airworthiness rules and aviation standards as related to commercial aircraft engines.
• Understand the operation of aircraft Auxiliary Power Units and related systems.
• Understands configuration management and design control.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to make good decisions related to component design and application
• Creative and innovative problem solver.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Specific vision abilities, required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
• Accredited Bachelor's in Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or similar field.
WORK HOURS:
•Full-Time- 08:00am-05:30pm
