Overview and Responsibilities

The Instructional Designer partners with faculty to design, develop, and improve courses across modalities, applying instructional design principles and institutional standards to support alignment of outcomes, learning activities, and assessments at the course and program level. This role supports the development of online and hybrid courses, leveraging the College's learning management system and other educational technologies. The Instructional Designer contributes to course development efforts across credit and non-credit programs and supports grant-funded and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with faculty and academic teams to design, develop, and enhance courses across modalities, ensuring alignment of outcomes, learning activities, and assessments at the course and program level.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to review and support the alignment of program and course outcomes, competencies, and curriculum.
  • Plan, design, and develop instructional materials and learning experiences that meet the needs of diverse learners and delivery formats.
  • Design and build course components in the learning management system, ensuring courses meet institutional standards for structure, navigation, accessibility, and technical functionality.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to develop instructional content aligned with institutional learning models and high-impact practices.
  • Provide ongoing consultation and support to faculty and staff on instructional design, course development, and effective use of educational technology.
  • Contribute to professional development efforts by supporting and, when appropriate, facilitating training related to instructional design, learning theories, and student engagement strategies.
  • Support the implementation of instructional design processes and collaborate with Educational Technology and Course Quality team members to ensure consistency and alignment.
  • Design and develop multimedia and instructional assets using a variety of educational technology tools to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Serve as a resource for Essential LMS requirements and support faculty in applying course quality and alignment principles within course design.
  • Manage projects and grant requirements including scope, timeline, and complete deliverables by deadline.
  • Attend conferences/professional development to keep current with educational technologies.

  • Advanced knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Office 365 Suite.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to various campuses as needed to fulfil job responsibilities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, instructional technology, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience working with instructional design and technology including familiarity with learning management systems and course design software.
  • Experience with web-based instructional design.
