Greenhouse Grower & Landscape Technician

Position Overview

We are looking for a dependable, hands-on Greenhouse Grower & Landscape Technician to join our team. This is a position with responsibilities that change throughout the growing season. From mid-February through June, the work is heavily focused on greenhouse production, plant care, propagation, transplanting, watering, fertilizing, pest monitoring, and preparing plants for sale or installation. As weather allows in March or April, the role adds some off-site landscape maintenance work, including spring cleanups and mulch/rock installation, all while continuing the greenhouse production. Summer months transition into mainly off-site work planting, weeding, pruning, mulching, and complete landscape remodels. This role requires someone who can work at a fast pace, keep up with experienced coworkers, and earn your co-workers' respect through being dependable, hard-working, and carrying forth a positive attitude.

Seasonal Responsibilities

Greenhouse Production

· Seed, stick cuttings, transplant, pot, space, pinch, prune, and care for annuals, perennials, vegetables, shrubs, and other plant material.

· Water, fertilize, monitor plant health, and identify issues related to pests, disease, nutrition, irrigation, or environmental stress.

· Assist with greenhouse sanitation, organization, inventory, labeling, pulling orders, and preparing plants for retail, delivery, or landscape installation.

· Follow growing schedules and quality standards while communicating crop needs or concerns to the supervisor.

· Safely use greenhouse tools, hoses, carts, sprayers, soil media, fertilizers, and related equipment.

Landscape Maintenance & Field Work

· Assist with landscape maintenance tasks including weeding, pruning, planting, watering, mulching, edging, bed clean-up, and seasonal property care.

· Load and unload plants, tools, soil, mulch, debris, and job materials.

· Operate or learn to operate basic landscape tools and equipment, such as hand tools, pruners, carts, hoses, trimmers, blowers, and other approved equipment.

· Work outdoors in changing weather conditions and complete physically active tasks throughout the day.

Ideal Candidate

· Has a strong interest in plants, horticulture, greenhouse production, landscaping, or outdoor work.

· Is reliable, punctual, observant, and willing to learn.

· Can follow instructions, ask questions, and communicate clearly with supervisors, team members, and customers.

· Works well independently and as part of a crew.

· Pay attention to plant quality, cleanliness, safety, and details.

· Previous greenhouse, nursery, farm, landscaping, garden center, or maintenance experience is helpful but not always required.

· Experience operating skid steers a plus.

· Must obtain private applicators certificate and commercial pesticide applicators license within 45 days of hire.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull throughout the workday.

· Ability to work in warm, humid greenhouse conditions as well as outdoor conditions including sun, heat, cold, wind, rain, and seasonal temperature changes.

· Ability to safely lift 75 lbs. and carry plants, flats, pots, bags of soil, tools, mulch, and other materials as assigned.

Schedule

Hours and daily tasks vary by season, weather, crop needs, and landscape workload. Overtime is required as needed during the spring greenhouse production and retail season. Some overtime is required as needed during the summer/fall months. Spring production season requires weekends as needed.
