Head Custodian

12 Month Position

Reports to: Principal or Assistant Principal

Purpose:  An employee in this class performs a variety of manual activities cleaning, sanitizing and maintaining the cleanliness of the school. The employee performs a variety of duties in accordance with established practices and cleaning schedules. 

Qualifications: 

• High school diploma or equivalency required
• Must hold valid NC Driver’s License
• Custodial experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment
• Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions
• Skills and knowledge in the use of custodial equipment used in routine cleaning 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cleaning and sanitizing of building daily and as needed 
• General cleaning, including moping, sweeping, vacuuming
• Scrub and clean rest rooms
• Use of a variety of floor cleaning custodial equipment (scrubber and burnisher)
• Ensure grounds are cleared of debris on a daily basis
• Check all fire extinguishers and exit and emergency lights for safety inspections
• Maintain and upkeep of custodial equipment
• Maintain custodial inventory and order supplies as necessary
• Assist with onboarding and training of new custodians
