Job Title: Chimney Sweep / Chimney Technician

Chimney Cricket is seeking a dedicated and physically capable Chimney Sweep / Chimney Technician to join our team. The primary role is to ensure the safety, efficiency, and cleanliness of our clients' chimney and venting systems. The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills, a strong commitment to safety, and a thorough understanding of fire prevention and current building codes.

Key Responsibilities

• Chimney Cleaning & Maintenance:
• Perform thorough cleaning of chimneys, flues, fireplaces, wood stoves, and other venting systems to remove soot, creosote, and debris using specialized brushes, rods, and high-powered HEPA vacuums.
• Protect the customer's home by placing drop cloths and utilizing cleaning techniques to prevent dust and soot from entering the living space.
• Safely remove obstructions, such as bird or animal nests.
• Inspection & Assessment:
• Conduct comprehensive visual and technical inspections (Level 1, 2, and 3 as required) of the chimney structure, flue liner, firebox, and exterior components (crown, cap, flashing).
• Utilize advanced tools like CCTV cameras to identify cracks, leaks, structural damage, or draft problems.
• Ensure all systems comply with local building and fire safety codes
• Customer Service & Consulting:
• Clearly communicate the condition of the chimney system, explaining any necessary repairs, recommended preventative measures, and maintenance schedules to the customer.
• Provide expert advice on fire safety, proper burning techniques, and the use of heating appliances.
• Repair & Installation (as needed):
• Perform minor repairs, which may include simple masonry work, damper replacement, and chimney cap installation.
• Assist with the installation or relining of flues and wood-burning appliances.
• Documentation & Safety:
• Accurately document all work performed, including inspection findings, service reports, and invoices, using company-issued software.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Experience: 1 years of experience as a chimney sweep or in a related construction/service trade (masonry, HVAC, etc.) is preferred. Training will be provided for entry-level candidates.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency with cleaning tools (brushes, rods, vacuums) and inspection equipment (cameras).
• Basic knowledge of chimney components and heating systems (wood, gas, oil).
• Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work comfortably and safely at various heights, including climbing ladders and walking on sloped roofs.
• Ability to work in confined spaces (attics, crawl spaces).
• Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials.
• General:
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness.
• Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week

Work Location: In person

Salary : $18 - $25
