What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cable Technician position at Chimera IT Solutions?
Cable Technician
Full job description
Summary
We are seeking a Cable Technician to support low-voltage installations on commercial construction sites. This role involves pulling and routing data cables, assisting with installation of support structures, and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. Ideal for candidates comfortable with hands-on, physical work in active job site environments.
Responsibilities
- Pull and route data cables
- Install supports (J-hooks, cable racks, conduit)
- Label and organize cabling
- Follow safety guidelines and supervisor instructions
- This is not a "run wire anywhere" job. We need someone who understands or can learn why structured cabling is done a certain way, not just how to pull cable.
- - Solid working knowledge of:
- - TIA/EIA-568 termination standards (T568A/B, consistent throughout a job)
- - Proper bend radius for Cat6 to avoid signal degradation
- - NEC 800.133 separation requirements between low-voltage and line-voltage wiring
- - Maximum pulling tension guidelines — cable damage from over-pulling isn't always visible, but it shows up in certification testing
- - TIA-606 labeling standards
- - Comfortable using a certification tester (Fluke or equivalent) — not just a basic continuity tester
- - Experience with PoE cabling for cameras/access points specifically (voltage drop awareness on long runs)
- - Own basic hand tools; reliable transportation
- - Comfortable working in an active construction/renovation environment
- - Experience terminating Cat6 for camera/NVR systems specifically
- - Familiarity with rack/patch panel organization in a telecom closet
Pay: $36,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Health insurance
- On-the-job training

- Paid training
Work Location: In person
Salary : $36,000 - $38,000
