CLASSROOM SUPPORT AND INCLUSION SPECIALIST
The Classroom Support Inclusion Specialist plays an important role at Childswork. The CSIS works closely with the Education Director to support teachers and children throughout the school. The CSIS also supports families, procures specialized learning tools and resources, and collaborates with teachers and admin to create a school environment that meets the needs of all students. - Builds positive relationships with classroom teachers and acts as a support and partner in creating classrooms that support all children.
- Attends all IFSP/IEP meetings with classroom teachers and provides direct support working toward established objectives.
- Attends and supports preschool to kindergarten IEP meetings at the end of the school year.
- Communicates with and coordinates outside resources and specialists.
- Plans and conducts well-organized and informative Team CSIS Meetings.
- Listens well, is approachable, and is available for communications with families.
- Is available to support families and children transitioning to school
- Assists families with resources, referrals, and outside support systems.
- Facilitates Parent Education Workshops.
- Contributes to a comprehensive assessment of children including:
- Information gathered from the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) offered to each family before fall conferences.
- Ongoing observations and recording of developmental levels and patterns of behavior.
- Working in concert with classroom teachers, communicates with families regarding observed and documented patterns of behavior or areas of concern, in accordance with Childswork CSIS.
- Maintains regular communication with the Education Director regarding concerns, referrals, and special needs.
- Keeps copies of individual parent communications.
- Supports the development of emergent curriculum that encourages children to explore, discover, and construct knowledge through thinking, questioning, and experimenting and also embeds specific strategies for working with children with a variety of needs
- Observes and listens to children and supports teachers in adapting environment and strategies in response
- Meets regularly to collaborate with MECP providers and private therapists to discuss students’ progress, review accommodations and set new goals
- Ensures flexibility within the planned activity to allow for use of “teachable moments”
- Embeds Evidence-Based Practices within daily routines and activities
- Provides support to classroom teachers in developing curriculum and classroom activities that specifically advance objectives for individual children
- Provides teaching partners regular feedback and input regarding progress made towards IFSP/CSIS goals and objectives
- Models inclusive practices
- Acts in a professional and reliable manner to all colleagues
- Provides professional development opportunities to the faculty as needed or requested by Directors
- Creates Classroom Support Plans, facilitates implementation of the plans and tracks the efficacy of the plans
- Writes and keeps records for each child with support needs and/or IFSP
- Collects and tracks student data
- Creates at least two documentation panels throughout the school year highlighting work with children
- Keeps and maintains meeting notes with MECP providers, grown-ups, and teachers
- Creates and maintains a clean, well-organized, inviting, and esthetically pleasing school atmosphere.
- Supports the creation of a meaningful and functional learning environment.
- Provides expertise and support to implement UDL (Universal Designs for Learning) strategies.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
