The Art Studio Specialist brings creativity to life at the Children’s Museum of Denver at Marsico Campus. In this role, you’ll spark imagination, invite exploration and champion joyful, process-based art experiences for every guest who walks through the studio doors. 


Working alongside the Art Studio Coordinator, you’ll help shape a vibrant, welcoming space where creativity feels accessible, messes are encouraged, and every guest feels like an artist. You’ll balance hands-on facilitation, behind-the-scenes operations and outstanding guest service—all while helping ensure the studio runs smoothly, consistently and with shared accountability across the team.
 

Hours: Part-time, 20 hours/week Thursday, Friday and Saturday required with additional hours as needed, including occasional evenings, holidays and events
 

Rate: $21.29/ Hour  (additional $1/hour for Bilingual proficiency)

Responsibilities

  • Dream up and support creative experiences across all areas of the Art Studio—clay, paint, chalk windows, Art Corner and the Artist-in-Residence Studio  
  • Partner with the Art Studio Coordinator to design and facilitate engaging, process-focused art programs rooted in the Museum’s mission  
  • Bring the studio to life by actively engaging guests—offering playful prompts, asking curious questions and encouraging      experimentation  
  • Model strong facilitation, operations and guest service practices for teammates and volunteers 
  • Support the Art Studio Coordinator in training staff and volunteers on Art Studio best practices and daily procedures 
  • Help hold staff and volunteers accountable for executing daily studio expectations—supporting them in staying on track, stepping in with guidance when needed and ensuring a consistently high-quality guest experience  
  • Play and collaborate with colleagues across the Museum to support cross-content creativity and contribute to museum-wide programs, events and experiences  
  • Help open, close and maintain a clean studio environment so it’s always ready for the next burst of creativity  
  • Care for the kiln room and equipment—schedule, load, fire, unload and return masterpieces to their creators  
  • Keep art supplies stocked, organized and ready for use so guests can create whenever inspiration strikes 
  • Support point-of-sale transactions in the clay studio  
  • Jump in to support other exhibit spaces when needed  
  • Take on other duties as assigned (because creativity doesn’t always follow a script) 

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent


Experience: 

  • At least 1 year in customer service, hospitality, early childhood education , or a related field
  • At least 1 year facilitating or planning hand-on, process-based learning experiences for children and families


Skills & Superpowers:

· A genuine commitment to diversity, equity, access and inclusion  

· Strong communication skills—you can connect with both children and adults with ease and authenticity  

· Confidence working in a fast-paced, high-energy environment while keeping guest experience front and center  

· Ability to facilitate open-ended art experiences for a wide range of ages and abilities  

· Ability to redirect and support peers and volunteers in real time, reinforcing expectations with clarity and respect  

· Comfort with point-of-sale systems (Blackbaud/Altru a plus)  

· Spanish language skills are a big bonus  

· At least 18 years of age

  • Lift, move and set up materials (up to 50 lbs.)  
  • Stay active—kneeling, reaching, squatting and moving throughout the day  
  • Be on your feet or stationery for extended periods (up to 6 hours)  
  • Use a two-way radio to stay connected with the team  
  • Work with standard office equipment and art studio tools  

Working Environment 

You’ll work in both indoor and outdoor spaces filled with energy, movement and joyful noise. Expect a lively environment with fluctuating temperatures, busy crowds and frequent interaction with children and families. You’ll also use everyday tools—from computers to clay tools to cleaning supplies—to keep the studio running beautifully.
