The urology team at Children’s Mercy provides excellent care in a child-friendly environment. The department has earned recognition as one of the top programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
The urology team has expertise in all aspects of urological care. Our providers are frequently a part of specialty clinics for children with complex conditions that involve coordinated care plans, such as GI, endocrine, and colorectal conditions.

- Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes.
- Meets the educational needs of the patient and family and advocates for their needs.
- Maintains an environment that is safe, comfortable, efficient, and family-centered.
- Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality.
- Associate's Degree ADN Required.
- Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role.
- Bachelor's Degree BSN Preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013.
- Nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date.
- One of the following required upon hire:
- Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas
- Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri
- RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
- Employees must obtain Licensed RN - Kansas or Missouri multistate within 90 days
- Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
- Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire
