Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Monday-Friday, with an occasional Saturday.  Day Shift Job Overview The Senior Medial Assistant (MA) provides clinical support to patients and assists care providers with clinical and administrative support.  Responsibilities Population Specific Care a.) Neonate - <30 days b.) Infancy - >30 days to 1yr c.) Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs d.) Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs e.) School age - >5yrs to 13yrs f.) Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs g.) Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs. Essential Functions An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment. Conducts quality checks. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider. Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope. Anticipates and leads in balancing workloads and MA assignments and maintaining patient/clinic flow by coordinating with providers and clinic team. Provides phlebotomy and advanced specimen processing (i.e., centrifuge, Meditech) when indicated. Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation. Prepares and completes medical record for visit by recording patient information, treatment, and test results. Assists with patient “MyChart” enrollment. Participates in the standardized education of patients through written instructions and answering questions as directed by provider. Cross trains to multiple specialties/sub-specialties for front and back office (where applicable). Performs and supports patient reception including performing check-in and check–out, registration, scheduling and coordinating patient follow up visits. Creates moderately complex patient correspondence (i.e completes medication administration permission forms, refill request routing, etc.).  Participates in Electronic Medical Record (EMR) medication management. May need to synthesize or compile data from multiple areas of medical record to complete forms.   Independently initiates referrals and insurance pre-authorizations. Provides general office support including phone and fax management. Completes daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of reports and compliance. E.g. daily charge report, compliance with logs and checks, and etc. Serves as the preceptor for new staff including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress. Ensures supplies are ready by monitoring inventory, stocking work areas, placing orders and verifying receipt. Participates in hospital committees as directed by leadership. Serves as a mentor, expert in clinical area/skill, a safety coach/specialist, and continuously assists in reviewing and assessing peers” skill set. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations. Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential. Adheres to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards. SCOPE AND LEVEL Guidelines: Guidelines are generally but not always clearly applicable, requiring the employee to exercise judgment in selecting the most pertinent guideline, interpret precedents, adapt standard practices to differing situations, and recommend alternative actions in situations without precedent. Complexity: Duties assigned are generally complex and may be of substantial intricacy.  Work assignment is performed within an established framework under general instructions but requires simultaneous coordination of assigned functions or projects in various stages of completion. Decision Making: Exercises judgment and discretion, and is responsible for determining the time, place and sequence of the work performed. Communications: Contacts with the public or employees where explanatory or interpretive information is exchanged, defended, and gathered and discretion and judgment are required within the parameters of the job function. Supervision Received: Performs work with minimal supervisory oversight.  Under general supervision, the employee receives assignments and is expected to carry them through to completion with substantial independence.  Work is reviewed for adherence to instructions, accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standard practice or precedent.  Recurring work clearly covered by guidelines may or may not be reviewed. Qualifications EDUCATION – High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program. EXPERIENCE – One year in a direct health care role. EQUIVALENCY – An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program and the Medical Assistant certification. CERTIFICATION(S) - BLS for Healthcare Providers / CPR and certification as a Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, or State of Colorado Basic Emergency Medical Technician certification. Physical Requirements Ability to Perform Essential Functions of the Job Will frequently stand/walk up to 12 hours per day. Will frequently use hands while keyboarding and writing. Will frequently sit up to 2-4 hours per day while accessing computer, talking on the telephone, and while attending meetings. Will occasionally lift/force exerted up to 100 pounds. Constantly uses sight in performance for daily job duties. Constantly uses hearing in performance for daily job duties. Able to assist or assume direct patient care as census directly permits.  Exposure to unsteady or falling patient: In the course of transferring a patient, may encounter a patient who falls or loses balance, causing employee to fall and/or bear the full weight of a patient.                Work Environment Exposure: Exposure to blood/body fluid: Regular/Frequent.
