Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON) and the Resident Care Manager (RCM), the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) is responsible for providing the highest level of direct care and support to residents in accordance with state laws and organizational guidelines. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the CNA is responsible for responding to the unique needs of each resident while assisting him/her in meeting their individual goals.

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing (DON) and the Resident Care Manager (RCM), the Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) is responsible for providing the highest level of direct care and support to residents in accordance with state laws and organizational guidelines. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the CNA is responsible for responding to the unique needs of each resident while assisting him/her in meeting their individual goals.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Successful completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program

Minimum of 6 months’ experience preferably in PEDS or a long term care facility

Strong desire to work with Medically Fragile children

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual should relate to children/adolescents and indicate an interest in working with the physically impaired. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Promote the resident’s health and well-being in conjunction with their individual care plan goals.
  2. Adheres to schedule and performs bathing, feeding, dressing, and hygiene of residents while encouraging patient participation in self-care skills.
  3. Takes temperatures and vital signs and notifies nurse of any abnormal ranges in a timely manner.
  4. Properly documents obtained information on Flow Sheet.
  5. Repositions residents throughout shift with frequent rounds at least every 2 hours.
  6. Demonstrates compliance with Physical Management Plan of all Residents
    1. Positioning Program - positions residents properly in wheelchair and in bed
    2. Splinting Program
    3. Sensory Program
    4. Feeding Program
  7. Properly documents resident's performance in required programs.
  8. Ensures residents are ready for school, that they are neat and clean, assist residents onto the school bus, appropriately dressed for the weather and properly strapped in his/her chair.  Assist residents off bus noting their overall condition (documenting resident’s condition as needed).
  9. Follows direction of RCM, DON or nurse in emergencies.
  10. Reports to RCM or supervisor on duty when leaving and returning to unit, (i.e. coffee or meal break).
    1. Ensures that break times are staggered with other nursing assistants
  11. Maintains a safe and clean environment for all residents.
    1. Maintains facility in neat and orderly condition, completing housekeeping duties as assigned
    2. Complete laundry on each shift in the absences of the Laundress as assigned
  12. Follows infection control policies and procedures.
  13. Engages in proper interdisciplinary communication with:
    1. Therapy Department - report any missing/broken wheelchair parts and/or orthotics
    2. Respiratory Department
    3. Psychology
    4. DON/RCM
  14. Attend ongoing in-services, training, and in house educational programs.
    1. Utilize learned knowledge towards resident care and leisure
  15. Assist residents in meeting their educational, therapy, and respiratory goals by learning his/her individual care plan and implementing applicable activities.
  16. Responsible for the implementation of one on one activities per the resident’s individual care plan such as organizing and participating in games, reading to children, teaching residents songs, assist with hand-over-hand activities such as painting and drawing.
  17. Document the resident’s response during activities.
  18. Actively participates in and engage residents during recreational therapy (individual and group recreational therapy and community outings).
  19. Assist residents with homework as needed.
  20. Assist the Recreational Therapy Department with the implementation of special events (parties, birthday, BBQ's, holidays, etc.).
  21. Attend Care Planning meetings on a quarterly basis.
  22. Provide supervision and redirection to residents in a positive and constructive manner.
  23. Ensure that any specific additional needs of the residents are being met – medical, physical, emotional or spiritual.
  24. Undertake other duties as deemed necessary to provide excellent standards of care for residents at all times.

 

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid Certified Nursing Assistant License in the State of Florida

Valid Florida Driver's License

HIV Course

CPR and First Aid Course

A Confidentiality Agreement is required and must be signed upon commencement of service

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

DEPARTMENT ASSIGNMENT

BCC reserves the privilege of assigning the health care worker to the area where his/her expertise may be used to best advantage.  It may be necessary to change assignment from time to time.

 

SAFETY

Provides for safety and wellbeing of all residents and co-workers.

 

CUSTOMER SERVICE

Cooperates with all team members.
