Peer Leader Job Description
At Children’s Services of Roxbury (CSR), our mission is to bring peace of mind to children and families across Massachusetts. CSR was founded in 1972 and now serves more than 6,000 families annually across Massachusetts in 5 key service areas: housing for homeless families, foster care, early education, behavioral health, and youth development.
Youth, Purpose & Partnership (YPP) is a year-round leadership development, civic engagement, and workforce development program founded in 1995, as Youth & Police in Partnership, in response to rampant youth homicides and gang violence afflicting Boston. In 2023, led by youth voice, YPP redesigned and refined programming, deepening emphasis on building capacity of young people of color in media production skills and creating digital storytelling projects, opening access to careers in Boston’s burgeoning STEM economy. YPP is designed to build a digital creative community led by and for young people of color. Through YPP young people build and grow communications skills, gain work experience and credentials, and establish and progress towards personal and professional goals. The program is divided into two groups based on experience and age.
Community Peer Leaders programming focuses on developing young people’s research and storytelling skills through photo and audio storytelling of the history and current status of the neighborhood. The Peer Leaders will need to convey in their design why YPP exists. The modules will need to be both engaging and include historical contexts of Boston and this neighborhood while expressing current challenges people in this neighborhood face. These modules will be used for the Fall of 2023, both recruitment and training of the next group of YPP community peer leaders.
Dialogue Peer Leaders programming includes developing the skills to facilitate an intergenerational dialogue and will build the technical skills of video storytelling. The Dialogue Peer Leaders will use video to engage a broader audience about an issue they care about in the community and to share the dialogue they host and facilitate to a broader audience.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
YPP Peer Leader: (ages 14-18)
- Lead and/or participate in dialogues (virtually & in-person) about community issues with peers, community members, local leaders and law enforcement
- Participate in trainings/workshops related to leadership development, life skills, academic and career development
- Participate in and/or complete projects centered on civic engagement, community service and volunteerism as needed
YPP Peer Leader
- Possesses strong leadership skills and/or interested in leadership development
- Passionate about generating solutions to community issues and interested in partnering with peers, law enforcement officials and other community leaders to solve community issues
- Strong communication skills, public speaking, enjoys and/or interested in learning more about digital and social media
