The lead ophthalmic technician is responsible for training, overseeing and assigning daily responsibilities to the technical staff in the department in order to facilitate patient flow.

  • Full time - 40 hours per week
  • Cover clinics at main hospital, New Berlin and Mequon on a weekly basis
  • Day time hours - no evenings or weekends

Experience:

  • 2-3 years of Ophthalmic experience required, preferably in a medical setting
  • Experience in a leadership role preferred

Licenses and Certifications:

  • COT-Certified Ophthalmic Technologist - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology preferred
  • COA-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant - Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology within 1 Year required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required (before start date)

Education:

High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required

Essential Functions:

  • Performs all duties of an Ophthalmic Technician.
  • Works closely with direct manager to conduct orientation for new team members.
  • Assists with schedule review and staffing. Responsible for taking sick calls and rearranging daily clinics.
  • Assists direct manager in assuring annual competencies of all team members as well as re-training opportunities. Provides in-depth training, coaching and understanding to new employees
  • Meets regularly with Manager to discuss ways to improve overall performance of the department and increase patient satisfaction, staff development and performance evaluations. Helps with resolution of employee concerns and overall employee morale as well as miscellaneous tasks.
  • Helps maintain adequate medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam and testing rooms. With the help of the leader, responsible for ordering or delegating a team member to order supplies when low. Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Children's business.
  • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures including HIPPA and patient and employee confidentiality.
