Essential Functions
- Adheres to all Children’s Wisconsin (CW), Children’s Medical Group, procedures, and standards. Ensures confidentiality to our customers by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment; maintains HIPAA compliance. Provides exceptional care to patients and families to fulfill our patient experience promise.
- Performs Pre-Visit Planning prior to clinic appointments to ensure visit efficiencies and identify care gaps
- Maintains a clean, organized environment and prepares exam rooms to meet safety and clinical requirements.
- Greets patient and family in a welcoming manner, directs patients and families to exam rooms. Maintains clinic flow, monitoring patient location and wait time.
- Assists with the collection and documentation of patient information such as: vitals, measurements, health screenings, allergies, and home medications. Reports any observations or concerns to the nurse or provider.
- Assists the provider in the exam process, administers medications, immunizations and assists with procedures including capillary and peripheral blood draws as directed.
- Communicates with providers, leaders, and staff to maintain clinic operations. Alerts provider or Registered Nurse (RN) of any patient needing immediate assistance.
- Communicates with clinic leader about the quantity of supplies that equipment needed for patient care is available at all times for the clinic needs.
- Prepares for clinic by completing paperwork procedures, assuring all necessary information, prior authorizations or pre-certifications, etc. Assists with customer service representative duties as needed.
- High School graduate or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED) or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) required
- Graduate of medical assistant program, preferred. In lieu of this education, 6 months of experience in a patient care role would be considered.
- Experience in a primary care, urgent care, or specialty care pediatric setting preferred
- Experience in administering immunizations and other injections preferred.
- Experience with pediatric patients preferred
- Ability to assist and support other primary care locations as requested by leaders and/or the CMG float policy.
- Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
- Requires flexibility of time and duties in order to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Electronic Health Record proficiency preferred.
- Ability to assist and support other primary care locations as requested by leaders and/or the Children’s Medical Group float policy.
- Night and/or weekend hours may be required during high volume or viral surge periods where additional patient access is needed.
- CMA-Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants preferred
- BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
- Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.
