What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager - Hematopathology & Flow Cytometry position at Children's National Hospital?
Assist the departmental/divisional leadership in coordinating, planning and overseeing the daily activities of the Hematopathology Laboratory including coordination of flow cytometric analysis of research specimens, data analysis, reporting, records maintenance, quality control and quality assurance. Assist the departmental/divisional leadership in acting as a liason between Anatomic Pathology and all hospital departments and/or staff that are performing lab procedures. Complete all technical, regulatory and quality initiatives as assigned by departmental/divisional leadership.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry and/or Medical Technology. (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
3 years - laboratory histology or flow cytometry experience (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
5 years - laboratory management experience preferred (Preferred)
Good interpersonal and communication skills important. Knowledge and skills related to LIS desirable.

- Research, develop, validate, and implement new hematopathology assays with associated technologies and platforms required for testing.
- Perform preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures.
- Document discrepancies with appropriate remedial action.
- Ensure compliance with external regulatory and licensing agencies.
- Provides validation reviews, and training for the validation preparations.
- Develop and implement result reporting policies and procedures.
- Monitor & evaluate quality control & quality assurance programs.
- Review results, worksheets, and other data/information for accuracy and completeness.
- Recognize unexpected test discrepancies, and analyze causes.
- Evaluate new procedures, instruments and/or assays for use in flow cytometric analyses.
- Provide direct technical supervision to personnel assigned to hematopathology.
- Ensure highest quality service to clinicians, and faculty.
- Proactively update education, pursues newest techniques, and technologies.
- Assist in presenting information and provide training to laboratory personnel.
