Overview
We’re looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable STEAM Educator to join our small team! This position develops and teaches engaging, hands-on science and engineering activities for children ages 12 and under and their families.
The STEAM Educator also serves as Intern and Volunteer Coordinator, helping recruit, train, and mentor interns and volunteers who contribute to the museum’s educational and operational success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan, and facilitate interactive STEAM programs and workshops for children and families.
- Plan and lead seven weeks of summer camp (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–3 PM).
- Plan and lead one week each of winter and spring break drop-off camps.
- Act as the field trip liaison assisting groups with guidelines, and rotation schedules to guide their educational experiences.
- Collaborate with museum staff to support and enhance educational programs with supplementary content.
- Design STEM activity kits and engage in science outreach through partnerships with nearby organizations, universities, schools, and nonprofits.
- Support daily floor engagement, helping families explore exhibits through play and discovery.
- As needed, fill in at the front desk, assist with customer service, and ensure smooth visitor experiences.
- Organize, clean, and reset exhibits to maintain an inviting and functional play environment.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors.
Duties
- Design and deliver interactive STEAM curriculum tailored to various age groups, ensuring alignment with educational standards.
- Facilitate engaging workshops and classes that encourage exploration, experimentation, and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to integrate STEAM concepts across different subjects and grade levels.
- Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.
- Organize events such as science fairs, exhibitions, or competitions to showcase student projects and achievements.
- Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that promotes curiosity and respect for all participants.
- Stay updated on the latest trends in STEAM education and incorporate new technologies into lesson plans.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children in an educational, museum, or enrichment setting.
- Strong understanding of STEAM concepts and the ability to make them engaging for young learners.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Creative thinker with a hands-on, playful approach to teaching.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a small team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Engineering, Early Childhood, or a related field preferred.
- Must be available for special programming events and occasional evenings.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage students of varying ages and backgrounds effectively.
- Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for fostering a love of learning in students.
