Position Summary:
Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) is recruiting for Part Time Early Literacy Coaches who are committed to equitable and culturally responsive education, to be critical members of our Team!
The role of literacy coach is a position of instructional leadership. CLI’s Literacy Coaches provide one-on-one professional development coaching to birth-5 Teachers in various early childhood center, throughout the Boston area. We are seeking experienced early childhood/elementary educators who are committed to ensuring that Black and Latinx students receive a high quality education. You should have experience implementing a range of early literacy best practices in PK-5 classrooms, a deep commitment to anti-racism and a passion for teaching & learning.
While employees of CLI, Literacy Coaches work daily within a partner school where they are an integral part of their school’s literacy strategy. Literacy Coaches work collaboratively with teachers to hone their craft and implement literacy strategies that are relevant, affirm teacher/child identity, build literacy skills and foster children’s intellect and criticality.
Responsibilities
·Drive an instructional vision focused on foundational literacy skills development
·Provide teachers with coaching, modeling, and co-observations to improve and refine teaching practice
·Use teacher and student performance data to design, coordinate and facilitate professional development to increase teacher expertise
·Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice and track student and teacher progress to assess the effectiveness of coaching
·Develop teachers’ capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning
·Deep commitment to anti-racism and educational equity and the building of an organization that reflects the community CLI serves; ability to hold self and others accountable for centering equity
Qualifications

· 5 years of teaching and or coaching experience in an early childhood center classroom (teaching experience in underserved communities preferred)
· 3 years of utilizing core instructional literacy practices
· Experience exploring issues of identity, bias, and racism while celebrating the genius of Black and Latinx individuals; empowering teachers/children to use acquired skills to engage in reflection, activism and ally ship for Black and Latinx children strongly preferred
·Demonstrated expertise in ability to facilitate virtual coaching and professional development (as evidenced by experience using a variety of distance learning online platforms; video conferencing platforms and other virtual teaching & learning best practices)
· A strong track record of facilitating teachers/children toward instructional improvement
· Experience designing and leading compelling and relevant professional development
· Degree in early reading and foundational literacy (i.e. print concepts, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, etc.) strongly preferred
· Current on best practices in literacy with an emphasis on the science of reading
· Ability to conduct and deliver effective, personal development workshops and presentations
· Appropriate state level teacher certification/licensing preferred
