Job Overview
The Vascular Access Nurse provides critical support for all vascular access needs of inpatient and outpatient populations by vascular access assessment, planning, placement, and care for patients as assigned. Utilizing your expert nursing skills, the Vascular Access Nurse will insert peripheral and ultrasound guided IVs, manage and monitor vascular access devices to prevent infections, and continuously improve staff competencies related to line care and maintenance. This position provides an opportunity to utilize your specialized vascular access knowledge to ensure the highest quality care for our pediatric patients.

- Department PICC and Vascular Access
- Position Status Full-time, eligible for benefits
- Shift Night shift; 7:00pm-7:30am Every 3rd weekend rotation, holiday rotation
- Salary Information Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. Hourly Range: $40.26 to $60.39
- Places and maintains peripheral IVs, including using ultrasound guidance for patients with difficult access.
- Helps track data and supports process improvements to improve care.
- May help train new nurses on IV placement and care.
- Prepares and collects blood and other lab specimens.
- Supports EMT–Vascular Access staff by helping prioritize patient care needs.
- Assists the PICC RN with procedures and helps set up sterile fields.
- Works with nurses, providers, and other team members to choose the right vascular access devices based on the patient’s care plan.
- Teaches patients and families about vascular access care based on their needs.
- Provides guidance and answers questions for staff about IV placement and care.
- Checks on patients with central lines and changes dressings as needed.
- Assesses IV site effectiveness and works with the care team to make updates to the treatment plan.
- Degrees
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience
- Two (2) years of nursing experience and proficient with peripheral IV insertion and care.
- Equivalency
- Applicants with an Associate's Degree in Nursing who agree to obtain a BSN within three (3) years from their start date may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing.
- Licenses & Certifications
- BLS/CPR from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire.
