Where You’ll Work

This position is based in our Washington D.C. office. We leverage a hybrid working model working three days in the office, two days optional remote work.

What You’ll Do

This position will manage significant health policy analysis for Children’s Hospital Association’s (CHA) advocacy work, including planning, organizing and providing policy analysis to influence the federal Administration on priority issues, and policy support for legislative advocacy, including the outlining of policy options and solutions to benefit children and children’s hospitals.

  • Lead efforts to influence federal policies and programs in assigned issue areas with HHS and other relevant federal agencies to support children’s health and children’s hospitals. Examples of issues that may be assigned include private insurance coverage for children, price transparency and hospital finance issues, pediatric disaster preparedness and pediatric research, and support for state affairs priorities, among others.
  • Develop proactive advocacy strategies to advance CHA regulatory priorities in assigned issues; monitor, analyze, and respond to regulatory guidance and other administrative activities relevant to children’s hospitals and children’s health.
  • Draft comments that incorporate children’s hospitals’ feedback/data and internal CHA expertise; outline relevant policy alternatives, working collaboratively with allied organizations as appropriate.
  • Serve as a policy advisor providing significant policy support to CHA federal affairs team to contribute to legislative advocacy on assigned issues; lead responses on congressional requests for information.
  • Work in coordination with federal affairs to outline policy options and solutions and impact information to share with Hill offices.
  • Develop, build and maintain working partnerships with staff within HHS, other federal agencies as appropriate, and other experts in the field on priority policy issues.
  • Interact substantially with staff in other departments internal to CHA to raise the visibility of assigned policy issues and represent CHA at outside meetings of national allied organizations.
  • Provide technical assistance and policy analysis support directly to children’s hospitals on assigned issues.

What You’ll Bring To CHA

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health policy, public policy, or related field required; master’s degree preferred.
  • 5 years professional experience in health care policy-related field required.
  • Federal or state government and/or legislative experience desired.
  • Demonstrated expertise in health policy issues, preferably those that affect children and children’s hospitals, preferably related to insurance coverage, health information technology, and hospital pricing issues.
  • Experience representing organizational priorities and perspectives with external entities in coalitions and other settings.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with senior health policy professionals in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally.
  • Ability to analyze, synthesize, and summarize complex information to focus on the essence of an issue, as well as to identify, understand and address different policy perspectives.
  • Demonstrated time and project management skills, including the ability to meet multiple and potentially changing deadlines and priorities by maintaining a high level of organization.
  • Ability to work both independently and in teams, and to coordinate information and activities with others.
  • Demonstrated executive presence skills including effective presentations, proactive and critical thinking and the ability to communicate complicated policy issues internally and with external audiences.

This pay range shown is a guideline. Min: $94,000 Max: $160,000 Compensation is based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
