What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Director of Development position at Children's Home Network?
ABOUT CHILDREN’S HOME NETWORK:
Children’s Home Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through trauma-informed care, therapeutic services, and family support programs. As the oldest nonprofit organization in Tampa, with 133 years of service, we are committed to strengthening children and families across the Tampa Bay Area and beyond. The Mission Advancement Team builds relationships, generates interest, and inspires confidence among the organization’s constituents to attract private funding.
JOB SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of Development, this major gift fundraiser is responsible for establishing and managing prospect and donor relationships through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship to meet fundraising goals in alignment with the mission and aspirations of the Children’s Home Network. In addition to major gift fundraising responsibilities, the Associate Director of Development manages the implementation of the organization’s annual giving program and development-related event management.
While this position is primarily a fundraising role, it’s also about building meaningful community connections, participating in internal and community-led fundraising events, and engaging community connections to enhance awareness and involvement. This position plays a key role in securing support from individual, foundation, corporate, civic, professional, and faith-based partners.
The ideal candidate is a longtime Tampa Bay resident with key community connections, a relationship-builder, a strategic thinker, and a passionate advocate for children and families, ready to help shape a brighter future—one donor, one event, one story at a time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects to close major gifts of $10,000 for top funding priorities. Maintain a significant prospect portfolio and strategically manage relationships through face-to-face and virtual visits to bring major solicitations to a close. Meet activity and revenue goals in collaboration with the Director of Development.
-Produce timely, well-crafted proposals, budgets, contact reports, acknowledgement letters, emails, and stewardship materials that reflect CHN’s gratitude and impact.
-Assist in writing and reporting on grants in partnership with the grants writer to ensure timely submissions and accurate reporting.
-Regularly update donor activity and information in Raiser’s Edge CRM. Participate in weekly one on one’s with the Director of Development to review progress and strategy.
-Collaborate on marketing & communications efforts to highlight donor impact and promote fundraising initiatives.
-Represent Children’s Home Network at community events, networking functions, and donor meetings to build visibility and strengthen relationships.
-Actively contribute to a positive, mission-driven team environment. Participate in weekly Mission Advancement Team meetings and collaborate respectfully with colleagues.
-Take on additional responsibilities as needed to support the success of the Mission Advancement Office and the broader mission of Children’s Home Network.
-Work in a mostly remote environment. The in-office requirement at the Memorial Highway campus is once every 10 days or more often if needed, allowing for greater flexibility, better work-life balance, cost savings (commute/expenses), increased productivity, and autonomy.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
-Bachelor’s Degree preferred or five (5) years or more experience in fundraising, connecting, and/or transferable professional skills that include sales and interaction with corporate and individual clients.
-Track record of soliciting individuals/organizations for financial investments and the ability to articulate and advocate a strong case for support.
-Knowledge of Tampa Bay’s civic and philanthropic community.
-Experience with using fundraising management systems and technology (e.g., Raiser’s Edge CRM) to enter and report donor contact activities. Strong computer literacy (e.g., Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams) and fundraising-related event management experience are a plus.
-Demonstrated level of comfort working and communicating with top executives, community leaders, and/or individual donors. Ability to motivate, build relationships, and gain the respect of internal and external clients.
-Goal-oriented and self-motivated individual who can demonstrate accountability, initiative, creativity, and focus in a rapidly changing and intellectually stimulating environment.
-Demonstrate aptitude to manage time and workload to multitask and achieve goals in a deadline-driven environment.
-Ability to work on the road and/or work at odd hours and on weekends.
