Job Description
Performs developmentally and culturally appropriate forensic interviews of children and adolescents alleging sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, or having witnessed a crime. Manages psychosocial assessment, coordination, collaboration, advocacy, and testimony on behalf of children and families.
Experience
- 3 years of experience with children and families in child protection, criminal justice/law enforcement, healthcare, mental health, or social service
- Professional knowledge of child abuse and neglect
- Academic training or experience in and knowledge of developmental stages in children and
- adolescents
- Experience in or familiarity with court system and testifying
- Training and/or experience in forensic interviewing
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited school
- No professional certifications required
- Ability to collaborate with other professionals both inside and outside the agency setting
- Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
- Computer literacy to maintain medical records, internal and external correspondence, transcription, and multidisciplinary reports
- Conducts forensic interviews of children and adolescents who are suspected victims of sexual abuse, severe physical abuse, or having witnessed a violent crime.
- Consults with investigative team members before and after the forensic interview.
- Testifies in juvenile and/or criminal court proceeding when needed.
- Conducts psychosocial assessments with children and their caretakers to screen for child protection, custody, mental health, and other safety concerns.
- Serves as a backup for intake calls of suspected abuse cases by assessing and providing appropriate guidance and follow-up.
- Provides training, education, and assistance both within the organization and to community agencies and professionals.
- Coordinates program services with interagency partners, including law enforcement, Division of Family and Children Services, mental health, hospital, medical providers, juvenile court, districts attorney’s office, child advocates, and other agencies acting on behalf of a case.
- Participates in staff meetings, case review, and multidisciplinary team and child fatality.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date resource and referral information.
- Demonstrates understanding and compliance with documentation procedures.
- Maintains skill level and relevant knowledge base through supervision case review, research, and professional growth.
