Summary 

The RNA position's main purpose is to provide patients with daily care in accordance with state and facility established nursing procedures and as directed by their supervisor. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. Must be able to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional staff.

Job Summary: The RNA position's main purpose is to provide patients with daily care in accordance with state and facility established nursing procedures and as directed by their supervisor. 

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities Performed: 

Every effort has been made to make your job description as complete as possible. However, this in no way implies that these are the only duties you will be required to perform. General: 

  1. Check daily assignments at the beginning of each shift. 

  1. Check Rehab, school, and activity schedule for patients and plan day accordingly. 

  1. Measuring weekly weights, quarterly heights, and head circumference per MD orders.  

  1. Assist with setting up patients for meals and feeding patients as appropriate. 

  1. Reposition those patients every two hours who are unable to turn or reposition. themselves using proper body alignment. Apply/remove splints as instructed/scheduled.  

  1. Ambulate/assist patients with mobility as ordered.  

  1. Complete all documentation one hour prior to the end of shift.  

  1. Make sure to communicate with the nurse regarding any questions or concerns pertaining to patients and their care. 

  1. Assist with Activity program as assigned.  

  1. Only one person from each hallway may be on break at any time, and you need someone assigned to your hallway to relieve you. Notify the nurse when you leave for a break and when you return and who is responsible for the care of your patients.  

  1. B&B Documentation every two hours success or failure of each attempt 

  1. Assist Licensed personnel when requested or needed. 

  1. Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such actions. 

  1. Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, patients, family members and various other visitors to facility. 

  1. Must be able to work harmoniously with professional and non-professional staff. 

  1. Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents. 

  1. Must be flexible and willing to incorporate new methods into existing nursing practices. 

  1. Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace. 

  1. Works throughout the nursing service area. 

  1. Attends and participates in continuing education programs (24 hours of Cont. Ed. Per year). 

  1. Performs RNA exercises per MD orders and plan of care.  

  1. RNA documents exercise in PCC.  

Room Neatness: 

  1. Wipe off over bed tables and bedside tables. 

  1. All personal items put together and put away (basin in center bedside cabinet) medicated creams and ointments returned to licensed personnel. 

  1. No extra linen stockpiled on beds or furniture. 

  1. Wheelchairs in wheelchair buildings with their foot pedals on the wheelchair. 

  1. Wipe off all equipment and IV poles. 

  1. Vanderlift sling, urinals, and graduates to go in bathroom racks and labeled. 

  1. Maintain neat and orderly environment. 

  1. Maintain bathrooms in clean and orderly fashion with all items labeled. 

  1. Maintain supplies in rooms at stock levels as indicated. Replenish at 2am. 

  1. Keep hallways clear of furniture, wheelchairs, extra equipment. 

  1. Always ensure that hospital is maintained in a clean and orderly fashion. This includes all ancillary department rooms (x-ray, lab, playroom, rehab room, utility room, central supply), patient rooms and staff lounge. 

  1. All beds and privacy curtains must be away from doors. 

  1. Evening and night shifts make sure all doors are locked. 

  1. Emergency preparedness in your patient rooms. Be sure that you know where a flashlight is located at the beginning of your shift. 

  1. Neat wheelchair placement in wheelchair building. 

Safe Environment: 

  1. Assure all patient rooms have flashlights available. 

  1. Equipment is stored in a safe manner with plugs in red outlets as necessary. 

  1. All beds and privacy curtains are away from doors. 

  1. All outside doors and windows secured (locked) after 6 pm. 

  1. Staff member is aware of all fire safety, disaster, evacuation, code information. 

  1. Fire safety preparedness. 

Admission/Discharge Preparation: 

  1. Set up rooms for admissions.  Ensure appropriate supplies and equipment. 

  1. Orient patient/family to room, hospital, laundry usage, call light etc. 

  1. When a patient is transferred or discharged, assist to clean the room help with removing patient’s belongings and take it to the nursing office. 

  1. Return unopened supplies to Central for supply. Discard loose, opened supplies. 

  1. Complete belonging sheet and have family sign on admission and when family brings additional items to facility. 

  1. When admitting a patient make sure they are aware of hospital laundry usage and call light usage. Always introduce yourself. Be sure to complete clothing list and have patient or family to sign. 

  1. Weight and height on admission. 

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Must have certification as an RNA. 

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. 

  • Must maintain current BLS AND PEARS Certification from (AHA) American Heart Association 

  • One year of experience is preferred. One year of pediatrics experience is preferred. 

Physical Requirements: 

(With or without the aid of Mech. Devices) 

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. 

  • Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress on the job. 

  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability. 

  • Subject to frequent interruptions. 

  • Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, children, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility. 

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move a minimum of 50 lbs. 

  • Be able to work with patients, families, visitors, personnel, and government agencies under all circumstances. 

  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of patients during an emergency. 

  • May be requested to work overtime. 

  • Subject to potential falls, odors, burns from equipment, and hazardous materials. Also, to potential exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions including TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis viruses. 

Work Environment 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of radiation and vibration. 

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  

  • The employee must be able to work near other co-employees and concentrate efforts on tasks despite noise, interruptions and general commotion.
