Housekeeping (Part-Time)

Title: Housekeeper

Hours: Part-Time

Job Summary: The Housekeeper performs housekeeping and cleaning activities within well established guides and assigned areas.

1. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Performed:

Responsibility:  Maintains clean and sanitary conditions in assigned areas as directed according to established standards observing proper cleaning and disinfecting techniques.

Provides for: Economical use of supplies, care and use of equipment. Cooperating with other employees to promote efficiency and completion of all areas of the job.

         Tasks:

1. Receives assignment from Supervisor.
2. Follows cleaning schedule (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) as outlined for Housekeeping Department.
3. Cleans assigned areas, furnishings, fixtures according to established housekeeping procedures.
4. Cleans movable, and stationary, furnishings and fixtures.
5. Dusts, spot cleans or washes, disinfects when necessary.
6. Polishes where required.
7. Cleans ledges, shelves, vents etc.
8. Empties and cleans outside ash trays.
9. Empties and cleans and relines wastebaskets.
10. Straightens or rearranges furniture as directed.
11. Inspects furnishings for wear and defects and reports to Supervisor.
12. Cleans carpeting and rugs.
13. Vacuums, shampoos carpeting and rugs.  Have small rugs laundered.
14. Cleans bathrooms (patient, private and public). 
15. Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, walls, and patient equipment as directed.
16. Washes windows and mirrors.
17. Replenishes bathroom supplies.
18. Cleans walls, windows, doors and ceilings.
19. Spot cleans between washings, washes, disinfects when necessary. 
20. Walls and ceilings and ceiling fixtures are cleaned as scheduled.
21. Cleans entrances, exits.
22. Cleans as directed above for floors and for walls.
23. Cleans all horizontal surfaces as required, removing dust, dirt or greasy film using disinfectants where necessary, such as in patient care areas.
24. Performs terminal cleaning duties, according to established procedure in patient’s rooms when patient has been discharged or transferred, and prepares room for new occupant.
25. Performs cleaning duties in isolation units when patient is transferred according to established procedure.
26. Cleans OR and all associated areas per policy.
27. Removes for cleaning, and rehangs curtains, drapes, dividers.
28. Changes light bulbs.  Removes waste and disposes of waste and trash.  Waters flowers.
29. Reports observations concerning structural and equipment wear, defects or malfunctions to Supervisor.
30. Reports supply and equipment needs to Supervisor for replacement and/or replenishing.
31. Maintains equipment used in performing duties.
32. Performs other duties as directed by designated Supervisor.
33. Is tactful; courteous and at all times and cooperates with other hospital staff.

            Certification/Registration/Licensure: non applicable

  Job Related Experience:

1. 1 year acute hospital or S.N.F. experience preferred.
2. Must read, write and understand English.
3. Must have demonstrated ability to follow directions.

Physical Requirements:

1. Personal cleanliness.
2. Physically healthy and strong enough to perform duties (able to lift 30 lbs).

Salary : $18 - $20
