Children’s Eye Care of Michigan, one of the largest pediatric ophthalmology practices in the United States, is seeking a fellowship-trained, board-certified/board-eligible pediatric ophthalmologist to join our physician-owned private practice in metropolitan Detroit.
This opportunity is for a pediatric ophthalmologist who wants the best of both worlds: the autonomy and collegiality of private practice combined with the complex pathology, teaching and academic involvement typically associated with a major children’s hospital.
Founded in 1973, Children’s Eye Care has built an extensive referral network throughout Michigan and the surrounding region. Our physicians practice across suburban offices as well as our academic clinic at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit. The breadth of our referral base provides exposure to both high-volume pediatric ophthalmology and unusually complex medical and surgical disease.
The Clinical Practice
Our physicians provide comprehensive pediatric ophthalmic care as well as adult strabismus care.
We are specifically seeking a pediatric ophthalmologist who is comfortable managing:
- Pediatric glaucoma, including medical and surgical management
- Infantile and juvenile cataracts
- Retinopathy of prematurity, including screening and treatment
- Pediatric ocular trauma
- Pediatric strabismus and amblyopia
- Adult strabismus preferred but not required
- Pediatric lacrimal disease
- Ocular manifestations of genetic, neurologic and systemic disease
Our physicians are supported by an experienced team of eight certified orthoptists, pediatric ophthalmic technicians, opticians and administrative professionals with systems specifically designed around pediatric ophthalmology.
Private Practice Academics
Children’s Eye Care offers a model that is increasingly difficult to find: an independent, physician-owned pediatric ophthalmology practice with substantial academic involvement.
Our Detroit academic clinic is located at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, where our physicians participate in the education of approximately 26 ophthalmology residents and 50 medical students. The practice sponsors an AUPO-accredited pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus fellowship, providing opportunities for teaching and mentorship.
Just as importantly, our physicians remain part of a privately owned group. Clinical and business decisions are made by physicians and leadership who understand pediatric ophthalmology not by a distant health system.

Candidates must:
- Hold an MD or DO degree
- Have completed an AUPO-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus
- Be board certified or board eligible in Ophthalmology
- Be eligible for medical licensure in Michigan
- Have strong clinical and surgical skills in pediatric ophthalmology
- Be able to manage complex pediatric glaucoma and cataract disease
- Be trained and willing to participate in ROP screening and treatment
- Be capable of managing pediatric ocular trauma, including appropriate surgical trauma care
