Position Summary
The Children’s Aid Afterschool in Action Program at the Salome Urena Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is an afterschool enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. The Facilitator will provide tutorial help for students with their homework, additional educational instruction, social emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage middle school age children in an array of enriching sports and art-based activities.
Essential Duties
Children’s Aid will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of all allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or any violation of the Equal Employment Opportunity Policy in a confidential manner and will take appropriate corrective action, if and where warranted. Children’s Aid prohibits retaliation against employees who provide information about, complain about, or assist in the investigation of any complaint of discrimination or violation of the Equal Employment Opportunity Policy.
The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. This flexibility is essential for maintaining seamless communication, fostering teamwork, and ensuring the smooth operation of the department's processes. The position's requirements are subject to periodic review and adjustment based on organizational needs and changes in work dynamics.

Essential Duties
- Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
- A Facilitator is responsible for the supervision and care of (up to) 20 children, which comprise a group or club.
- A Facilitator is a leader, who commits to teach by modeling and demonstrates characteristics that participants can learn from.
- The role of a Facilitator is to engage the middle school age children in fun learning activities; as well as provide a safe and respectful environment to our youth.
- In most cases, Facilitators have an Assistant Facilitator, which they collaborate and provide guidance to on the day-to-day activities.
- Facilitators have to provide individual and group tutoring in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills.
- Facilitators are expected to develop classroom and behavioral management skills, implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum, and develop relationships with children and their families.
- The Facilitator help in the design, plan and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of program.
- A Facilitator is expected to be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children.
- A Facilitator assist in activities or tasks necessary to ensure an orderly operation of the program: supervise children during supper, ensuring equipment is properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned. They also plan, teach, supervise, and organize games.
- A Facilitator attends regular staff meetings, trainings and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
- Available from September through June for the after-school enrichment program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Pursuing an associate or a bachelor’s degree.
- At least one-year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching is highly preferred.
- Field of study in Education or Social Work.
