Position Summary: The Teachers in the After-School Program are responsible for leading and supervising activities for groups of middle school students.

Essential Duties:

  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Supervision of the children in their assigned activity
    • Surveying the room to make sure the room and any equipment is safe and in working order.
    • Intervening and mediating any conflicts that the children may be involved in.
    • Keeping track of where all the children are.
    • Leaving the room and all areas in a neat and clean manner.
    • Providing proper attention to first aid issues and documentation of all accidents and injuries.
    • Overall providing a safe, fun, friendly and nurturing environment.
    • This supervision occurs at all times, including arrival, transitions, during activities and departure.
  • Programming for activities
    • They will be responsible for planning and implementing the activities in program, including prepared lesson plans. Their role in programming shall be to instruct, encourage, support, include all children and clean up. It is important to be prepared with supplies and ideas.
  • Working with individual children
    • It is their responsibility to develop positive relationship with the children. If children are having difficulties in program, it is necessary for them to intervene to help the child adjust and then share with the Site Director any concerns or problems. If individual behavior plans are established, they will help to implement them.
  • Staff meeting and agency trainings
    • It is their responsibility to attend staff meetings, individual supervisory sessions and agency trainings.
  • Role model
    • It is necessary for them, at all times, to act in a positive, respectful and warm manner towards all children, parents, family members and co-workers.
  • Reports and parent contacts
    • At times, it may be necessary for them to participate in parent meetings or to write individual reports about a child or children in their group. In each of these circumstances, they will be properly supervised and supported by the Site Director.
  • Work Schedules
    • It is important that they maintain regular attendance and punctuality in After School Program. They are responsible for informing the Site Director or other designated staff person if they are unable to work at their scheduled time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a licensed Teacher.

Key Competencies:

  • Understanding of developmental needs of children ranging in age from 10-14.
  • Demonstration of planning and program skills.
  • Past experience in working with children.

The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. The position's requirements are subject to periodic review and adjustment based on organizational needs and changes in work dynamics.
