Position: Cafeteria Assistant Manager
Reports to: Cafeteria Manager
Supervises: Child Nutrition I and II Workers
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Health, strength, and endurance to perform assigned duties.
- Food Service Handlers Permit required.
- Satisfy all district requirements with regard to physical health and citizenship.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Position Goal: To ensure efficient operation of an assigned cafeteria area for the ultimate benefit of the students.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibilities of the Cafeteria Manager during their absence from the cafeteria.
- Attends relevant training classes, staff meetings, and workshops.
- Manages and assists in quality food production following menus and standardized recipes using quality preparation and service methods with safe food handling techniques to ensure Child Nutrition Department standards of the following:
- Food quality, palatability and appearance
- Correct, safe temperatures
- Proper utensil portion sizes
- Proper and timely storage of deliveries and leftover food
- Appearance of serving lines for eye appeal
- Maintains defined standards of sanitation and safety with cleaning schedules for all personnel following sanitation guidelines in food preparation and proper care of kitchen equipment and cafeteria facilities.
- Participates in developing and maintaining routine procedures for accurate checking and distribution of meals to promote and evaluate customer satisfaction.
- Assist in ordering food and supplies according to established specifications, determined by menu, volume, and student need.
- Recommends purchase of small equipment.
- Maintains required departmental and Federal reports.
- Directly supervises employees and with direction from the Cafeteria Manager and Child Nutrition Director plans work schedules and assignments.
- Demonstrates knowledge of departmental regulations and school district policies. Keeps employees up to date to policy or regulation changes.
- Maintains an approved system to check, inspect and store all incoming food and supplies.
- Conducts continuous on-the-job training for food service personnel.
- Maintains good public relations with customers, co-workers, school staff, supervisors and community.
- Assumes responsibility for the security of revenue from cafeteria services until it has been turned over to proper authorities.
- Evaluates the performance of cafeteria workers.
- Assumes responsibility for checking that all equipment in the cafeteria area is in safe, working condition, and notifies the appropriate authority when repairs or replacements are needed.
- Supervises in the cleaning and sanitation of the kitchen, serving, storage and dining areas and any other assigned location.
- Professional appearance in accordance with department standards.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Employment Terms: Nine (9) month classified hourly contract
