Child Lane provides Early Care and Education, Nutrition, and Family Support Services to the Long Beach and Harbor communities. Founded in 1984, Child Lane has grown from serving a handful of children to serving nearly 6,000 children a day through our Early Care and Education Program and Nutrition Program.
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Family Child Care Network Manager, the Family Child Care Specialist provides technical assistance and support to providers in Child Lane’s network of licensed family child care homes. The Family Child Care Specialist conducts observations and assessments of family child care programs and children enrolled, providing individualized coaching and mentoring to providers, and enhancing the overall quality of services offered by providers in the network. Occasional evening and weekend work is required
Essential Position Responsibilities
Assessments and Observations
- Complete child assessments using the Desired Results Developmental Profile (DRDPs).
- Assist with the development of curriculum plans to support each child’s growth.
- Conduct parent conferences in partnership with family child care providers.
- Prepare child assessments with supporting documentation and generate reports according to set guidelines and deadlines.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Technical Assistance
- Provide coaching and technical assistance based on observations and knowledge of individual providers and children.
- Set goals with providers to improve program quality based on the Family Child Care Environment Rating Scale findings.
- Make available support materials, equipment, and activities to be shared during home visits.
- Research and offer enhanced referrals to providers and families seeking additional support.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Program Support
- Calculate monthly provider reimbursements.
- Participate in and co-facilitate meetings, workshops, and trainings.
- Represent the Family Child Care Network at community events and meetings.
- Participate in staff development opportunities to maintain knowledge of industry standards and contract amendments.

Education, Permit and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development required.
- Teacher Permit required.
- Two years of paid work experience in an ECE environment.
- Experience with DRDPs and Environmental Rating Scales.
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid Certificate.
- Child Abuse & Neglect Mandated Reporter Training.
- Health Clearance, including TB screen and other required vaccinations.
- Valid California Driver’s License and access to transportation.
Physical Requirements
Must possess mobility to work in childcare and office settings and to use standard office equipment including a computer, stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions, strength to lift and carry children or equipment weighing up to 40 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Travel Requirements
Frequent local travel is required.
