Summary

The Recovery Coach (AMCI/YMCI) is designed to provide our clients with consistent, high-quality care through an array of evidence-based, culturally competent, person and family-centered treatment. The Recovery Coach is a fully integrated team member who identifies as a former recipient of recovery services and now uses that experience to provide individual and group support to clients and families receiving services through our CBHC.

$1 per hour Language Differential! (eligible languages include: Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish or ASL)

Job Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • Provide a safe, welcoming, and clean environment for our clients and families
  • Provide trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, person-centered care based on the unique needs of clients
  • Participate in Triage, Screening & Intake process with clients to ensure fidelity of same day access to services, including the completion of necessary documentation
  • Complete internal and external referrals with clients based on their individualized needs
  • Assist with facilitation of Recovery Coach services, including individual, family, or group services as appropriate
  • Serve as a recovery guide and role model with our clients throughout their journey of recovery
  • Connect the client with recovery support services while encouraging hope, optimism, and health
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions, including motivational interviewing skills to empower clients and families with improving their overall health and wellness
  • Provide education on overdose prevention and the use of naloxone to the individual and offer the client an overdose prevention kit
  • Support transitions of care and engage in effective coordination of care across health and behavioral health services to facilitate wellness and recovery of the whole person, including after-care planning
  • Utilize evidence-based interventions, including motivational interviewing skills to empower clients and develop person-centered service plans as appropriate
  • Provide crisis intervention and coordinate with both YMCI and AMCI programs
  • Remain knowledgeable about the substance use disorder service system and link the client to treatment and recovery resources including but not limited to Acute Treatment Services (ATS), sober housing, benefits, and Narcan education
  • Serve as a community educator by providing psychoeducation to relevant community providers
  • Maintain record-keeping as required by CFS, funding sources, and accreditation authorities
  • Participate in all supervision and training activities as required by CFS, funding sources, and accreditation authorities
  • Understand the CBHC model and incorporate it into practice
  • Assist clients and families with transportation needs as appropriate
  • Keep Evolv Calendar up to date to support implementation of Centralized Scheduling
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule which can include evenings and/or weekends
  • Practice Enhanced Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Services

All 24-hour/Acute Care Staff are considered essential.  Essential staff are defined as personnel who are expected to report to work as scheduled, regardless of holidays and/or during any emergency situation and/or agency closing (i.e., inclement weather) to ensure the ongoing operations of the program.   

Due to the type of work and client needs, this position may need to work beyond a forty-hour work week. Additionally, essential staff may be required to remain on shift or work an additional shift until relief staff are available.   

For overnight positions, staff are required to stay awake for the entirety of their shift.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

High School diploma required. Certified Recovery Coach or willingness to complete the Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS) Recovery Coach Academy or the Connecticut Community Addiction Recovery (CCAR) training prior to working with individuals within one month of hire is required. Must demonstrate an understanding and belief in the recovery process and Recovery Oriented Systems of Care model.

  • Cultural knowledge of key populations that will be served to address disparities in service delivery
  • Demonstrates positive attitudes towards cultural differences by showing respect and openness towards people whose social and cultural background is different from one's own 
  • Demonstrates skills for communication and interaction across cultures, including the ability to recognize and manage personal behaviors, moods, and impulses to create an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming climate within the agency 


Travel Required

Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation that meets CFS Driver Policy. Travel is required to provide services in different settings and to attend agency meetings, events, and trainings
